This article will explain in detail how SUSE Linux installs ADSL to surf the Internet. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you as a reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

1 、 Packege

SuSe 6.4 already contains pppoed-0.46-7.

2. Set up network card and gateway

# ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492 (do not set any IP addresses for eth0) and make sure your default gateway is empty.

3. Add user name and password to / etc/ppp/pap-secrets and / etc/ppp/chap-secrets.

It should be like this: "szmycom@163.gd" * "mypassword"

4. Edit / etc/resolve.conf

Nameserver 202.96.134.133

Nameserver 202.96.128.68

5. Add the following line to / etc/modules.conf:

Alias char-major-144 pppox

(actually this line already exists in my Suse.)

6. Modify the file / etc/ppp/options.

Note: the login application is your own.

7. Run / usr/sbin/pppoed to start the connection.

Note: only root users can start the connection.

If you are using a network device whose name is not eth0, you need to start it in this way

/ usr/sbin/pppoed-I ethX, X is the number of the network card.

8. Inspection,

Test the connection with tail-f / var/log/messages to track and diagnose the connection status of ADSL, and use ifconfig to view the IP address assigned to your ppp0 device. If the address assignment is successful, it means that a connection has been established. Use the route command to view the gateway address assigned to you by the dial-in server. Using ping www.163.com should be able to ping, if not, it may be your DNS setting problem.

9. Agent local area network and then install a network card.

Set the IP address to 192.168.1.1 and add a rule for IP forwarding:

/ sbin/ipchains-A forward-j MASQ-s 192.168.1.0 Plus 24-d 0.0.0.0 Universe 0

Client in the local area network sets 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway and can surf the Internet through this LINUX computer.
