1. Preface

Using windows binary distribution package (msi) installation is very simple, as long as you follow the prompts to install it, and install ordinary software is no different. However, if you want to configure the plan well at the time of installation, you need to understand what each step does in the end, and each step will be repeated below.

This is for students who have just come into contact with mysql. Please do not spray.

2. Download

Download dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/#downloads

Go directly to the corresponding version of mysql, 8.0.12.

3. Start installation

installation options

I chose the first option, which I installed on a local virtual machine.

The first option: development installation, support needs to involve the development of personnel to install, this is all installed.

Second option: Install server only

Third option: Install client only

The fourth option: although called a full installation, it does not include development options

Fifth option: Custom installation

Inside contains installation

MySQL Server has 64 bits.

After selecting, it will have a self-test process, prompting you to select the installation package, which software installation needs to depend on.

If you don't need to install, just cancel those packages in the custom installation.

Here I hint at some software that needs to be installed when selecting this option.

Visual Studio and Python are included and installed if necessary.

You can remove this option from the custom option and you will no longer be prompted to install it.

Once installed, the following configuration will be performed

This step is to configure mysql according to the prompts given by the installation package, or use the traditional configuration method.

The following options should be options for testing clusters.

Mode and Network Configuration

There will be prompt connection mode, generally choose the first one through TCP/IP

The default port is 3306, you can also choose other ports, as long as you ensure that there is no conflict.

There are three options.

Development computer, is applied to desktop development using mysql, basically in the personal computer. mysql consumes very few system resources

server computer, is mysql server mode, which works with other applications and runs together, occupying a certain amount of system resources

Dedicated computer is a MySQL dedicated server that runs only MySQL and takes up all system resources.

select the authentication method

The first option is a new authentication method provided by mysql 8.

The second option is the verification method of mysql 5.

Either one will do.

Configure passwords, add users.

This is to configure the Windows service, the service name is Mysql8888, this is a good recognition, do not conflict with the name can be.

Users who start the service, according to their own planning configuration.

Here is a configuration linked to the server. Enter the password and check.

Finally prompt to start mysql workbench and mysql shell.
