Step 4. Restart the Configuration Manager primary server

Note: do the following as a local administrator on the Configuration Manager server (CM01)

Open an administrative command prompt and issue the following command:

Shutdown / r

Step 5. Install the WSUS role

Note: do the following as a local administrator on the Configuration Manager server (CM01)

Now that the SQL server is installed, we can deploy the WSUS database on SQL Server. Instead of using the default Windows Internal Database, perform the steps:

Use roles and features in the server manager to add the Windows server update service role

When you are prompted to add features for the WSUS role, click add Features.

When prompted for a role service, uncheck the WID connection and add DATABASE.

When prompted for a content location, enter a valid path

When prompted for a database instance selection, enter the server name and click check connection

On the confirm installation selection screen, click install.

Finally, click close.

After installing the WSUS role, in Server Manager, click the exclamation point, and then select start Post-installation Task.

After the completion of the task

Optional: you can use SQL Server SSMS to view the WSUS database (SUSDB)
