Members of the Solus project team officially released the much-anticipated Solus 4 Linux operating system today. This version update took more than a year to complete, and users can now redeploy the GNU/Linux distribution on their computers without downloading hundreds of updates from the software repository.

The biggest highlight of ­Solus 4 distribution is the significant improvements to the Software Center, Budgie menus, calendar widgets, the new Caffeine Mode Mini Program, IconTasklist Mini Program, Raven Notification Center and notification management using the latest and best Budgie 10.5 desktop environment.

The ­Budgie 10.5 desktop environment has also completely rewritten and designed the Sound plug-in, with a wider range of personalization options for customizing Budgie Desktop settings in the Raven Notification Center, and enabling new options and the much anticipated GTK style for the window section.

­Joshua Strobl said: "We firmly believe that Budgie should be able to provide our users with a balanced, organized desktop experience and a more personalized experience through a variety of Budgie plug-ins." GNOME and MATE flavor versions have Plata (Noir) GTK themes by default, Oblivion themes are enabled by default for Gedit text editors in GNOME flavor versions, and the latest MATE 1.20 desktop environment is used by default in MATE flavor versions. The KDE flavor version is still in the experimental stage and will use the KDE Plasma 5.15desktop environment.

­Solus 4 will be equipped with the Linux 4.20.16 kernel and Mesa 19.0 graphics stack to provide out-of-the-box support for AMD Picasso and AMD Raven2 APU,AMD Radeon Vega20 GPU, and improved support for AMD Radeon Vega10 GPUs,Intel Coffee Lake and Ice Lake CPUs.

Many major components in ­Solus 4 will also be updated, including FFMpeg 4.1.1 multimedia stack, Mozilla Firefox 65.0.1 Web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 60.5.2 email and news client, LibreOffice 6.2.1.2 office suite, VLC 3.0.6 media player, Rhythmbox 3.4. 3 music players (GNOME version only) and GNOME MPV 0.16 media players (MATE version only).

­as expected, Solus 4 is available in four flavors, including Budgie,GNOME,KDE Plasma and MATE desktop environments.
