French antitrust regulators will fine Apple for suspected anti-competitive behaviour, a person familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

It is reported that the French government will fine Apple on Monday on the grounds that it is suspected of violating the anti-monopoly law.

Apple has been the target of antitrust groups since last year, including an investigation launched by the Justice Department in July 2019. Now, at least some competition regulators seem to be taking action. According to Reuters,

The French competition authority will make a final ruling on Apple's antitrust violations, which is clearly related to the fact that Apple's distribution and sales network violates local antitrust laws and regulations. Apple mentioned the allegations in its last annual report, but denied it. Although the publication did not elaborate, the focus of the antitrust investigation appears to be Apple's strict control of App Store. The amount or exact amount of the fine is still unclear.

In March 2019, Spotify complained to the committee about Apple's anti-competitive behavior in the Apple App Store. Spotify claims that Apple has limited users' choices, banned third-party apps from making full use of its platform, and cut back on in-app purchases. Apple refutes these claims.

Apple has conducted another round of antitrust reviews after taking stricter measures on the iOS parental control app. Later, the cyber security company Kaspersky Lab complained to the Russian government.

Isabelle de Silva, the French antitrust regulator, had previously targeted other tech giants, including Google, which were fined $167 million by the government in 2019. Opaque advertising rules.

In February, the French government also fined Apple $27 million for software updates, limiting the performance of the iPhone because of poor battery quality.
