Everything about iPhone SE is designed for the next few years, except for one very important component: the screen. More specifically, the top and bottom have a thick border with a 4.7-inch LCD. This is an old design directly from 2017, making the already small screen feel smaller than it is possible.

What a pity, otherwise the SE is an excellent mid-range phone. Starting at $429, it will bring you a handsome return on investment, as it will almost certainly get software updates in the next few years. This year's models also include 5G and, of course, Apple's latest and best processors, both of which will enable the phone to achieve wireless advances in the near future.

There are other significant improvements such as larger batteries and some software-based camera updates that will certainly help keep SE technologically up-to-date. There is also a home page button with Touch ID, and some people just prefer Face ID and gesture navigation. This iPhone SE is suitable for them or those who only want to buy iOS devices for as little money as possible and don't mind the small screen. But for others, I think this retro design is a little out of date and may be better left in the past.

The 4.7in LCD of the 2022 iPhone SE is bright enough for outdoor use, but lacks the strong contrast of the OLED panel.

The iPhone 8 chassis used in this SE may be old-fashioned, but here is Apple's latest mobile processor A15 Bionic. It is the same as what you found in the top 13 Pro Max. Similarly, SE costs less than $500, while 13 Pro Max costs more than twice as much. This is so cool. In daily use, the SE behaves like a phone with a state-of-the-art processor. Applications open so fast that even graphics-intensive Genshin Impact runs smoothly. Phones that SE can't do more than $1000 can't do much.

Unfortunately, small screens hinder this cutting-edge performance. It's not a bad display-it's a 4.7in 750x 1334 pixel LCD that gets enough brightness when used outdoors. But you don't get a faster refresh rate, which makes scrolling look smoother, and you don't get the same popularity and impact as OLED, which is definitely one of the smallest screens sold on new smartphones today. The text looks small by default, and you can enlarge it, but that means more scrolling.

When playing games on my phone in horizontal mode, I always felt that I didn't have enough room to slide around the left side of the screen to move my character. When my thumb finally blocked any sharp objects I should have avoided, the poor child in Limbo suffered the consequences. The phone can run even the heaviest games with graphics, but playing games on a narrow screen is far less fun than a widescreen display with more space.
