Flex2.0.1 introduction

We knew we had created something special when we released AdobeFlex2 in June 2006. We got very positive feedback from the development community, and the programs developed by the developers were really amazing. Of course, Flex2 is a large piece of software, so it is inevitable that there will be something unreleased (such as the Macintosh version of FlexBuilder). In addition, we have made some changes to fix bug. By issuing Flex2.0.1, we tried to solve these two problems. FlexBuilder platform

We said when we released Flex2.0 in June 2006 that a version of Macintosh would be released after that. We fulfilled part of our promise on MAX2006 in October to release a full-featured FlexBuilderbeta version of Macintosh in AdobeLabs. FlexBuilder2.0.1 is the official version for Mac, and we plan to release both Windows and Macintosh versions of FlexBuilder in the future.

FlexBuilder2.0.1 now officially supports Eclipse3.2. Windows users can upgrade their Eclipse to 3.2 and easily install FlexBuilder as an Eclipse plug-in (the plug-in version of Mac requires version 3.2). The stand-alone installation version of FlexBuilder on the Windows platform is still version 3.1, but the version on MacOS is version 3.2.

Eventually we fixed the bug to ensure that FlexBuilder2.0.1 works with two popular Eclipse-based environments: BEAWorkshop3.2.1 and IBMRationalSoftwareArchitect7.0.

ASDoc

In August 2006, we released the document generator, ASDoc, in AdobeLabs. With Flex2.0.1 we fixed some bug in the Labs version of ASDoc and now officially support it as part of the product. Now you can create documents that are consistent with the look and feel we provide (lookandfeel, which is part of SDK), or change the look and feel to match your own needs.

FlashType support

FlashType is a text rendering engine introduced by FlashPlayer8. It improves the readability of the text, especially for smaller fonts. To use the FlashType engine in Flex2, you need to use the Flashauthoring tool to create a SWF with special fonts embedded in it, and then embed this SWF file in your Flex application. Fonts can now be embedded directly using the FlashType engine by using the Flex2.0.1,mxmlc compiler, reducing one step for many developers.

Support large applications through modules

One of the most anticipated features of Flex2.0.1 is improved support for large applications with the new mx.modules package. RogerGonzalez, an engineer at Adobe, first drew our attention to this issue on his blog, and then its influence deepened. The Flex framework now provides a simple mechanism for dividing a large application into smaller modules. It not only improves the download performance of large applications, but also allows large applications to be developed in multiple blocks. Runtime CSS

Many applications customize the appearance by using CSS positioning, defining colors, skins, and other properties. Flex2.0.1 enhances this by allowing programs to apply stylesheets at run time. Function test

Testing a complex application is a long process, and it becomes especially difficult when each test is run manually by one person. Functional testing tools are designed to ease this process by performing the same tests on different versions of the application to ensure that the functionality of the program remains unchanged. A popular functional testing tool is MercuryQuickTestPro, and we introduced support for this tool in Flex2.0.1.

We provide an automated framework that defines the core functions for any particular test scenario. It defines interfaces for component developers so that your own components, like controls within Flex, can be used as part of the program under test. We also provide MercuryQuickTestPro9.1 with a plug-in that can communicate with Flex applications.

Flex2.0.1 also includes a * version of AdobeFlexDataServices. We use SDK to update the compiler of the web layer and solve many problems reported by customers, thus improving the support, reliability and performance of Hibernate.
