two。 Brief introduction to Log Shipping configuration

The following figure shows a log shipping configuration with a primary server instance, three secondary server instances, and a monitoring server instance. This figure illustrates the steps performed by backup jobs, replication jobs, and restore jobs, as follows:

1. The primary server instance performs a backup job to back up the transaction log on the primary database. The server instance then places the log backup in the primary log backup file (which will be sent to the backup folder). In this figure, the backup folder is located under the shared directory (backup share).

two。 All three secondary server instances perform their own replication jobs to copy the primary log backup files to their local destination folder.

3. Each secondary server instance performs its restore job to restore log backups from the local destination folder to the local secondary database.

The primary and secondary server instances send their own history and status to the monitoring server instance.
