Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article is to share with you about the changes in the Exchange architecture, the editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you to learn. I hope you can get something after reading this article.
Starting with Exchange 2007, Microsoft began to deploy servers into five roles in order to improve the security and stability of servers. At Exchange 2010, this mode is still used for deployment, and the following figure illustrates a domain where all server roles of Exchange 2010 have been deployed:
Exchange 2010 includes the following server roles:
Mailbox server this server hosts mailboxes and public folders.
Client access server this is the server that hosts client protocols (for example, Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3), Internet Mail access Protocol 4 (IMP4), secure Hypertext transfer Protocol (HTTPS), Outlook Anywhere, availability service, and autodiscovery service). The client access server also hosts the Web service.
Unified messaging server this is the server that connects the private exchange (PBX) system to Exchange 2010.
Central Transport Server this is the mail routing server that routes messages within the Exchange organization.
Edge Transport Server this is the mail routing server that is usually located on the periphery of the topology and routes messages in and out of the Exchange organization.
In Exchange 2013, as the cost of CPU computing power decreased, the number of server roles was reduced to three: client access, mailbox, and Edge Transport server roles. The Hub Transport server role is replaced by a transport service that runs on the mailbox and client access server roles, and the Unified messaging server role is replaced by a unified messaging service running on the mailbox and client access server roles. In Exchange 2013, the Mailbox server handles all activities of the active mailboxes on that server. The client access server will provide authentication, restricted redirection, and proxy services. The client access server itself does not perform any data rendering. The client access server is a stateless thin server. Nothing is queued or stored on the client access server. The client access server provides all the common client access protocols: HTTP, POP, and IMAP and SMTP. In Exchange 2016, there are only two roles left: the Mailbox server role and the Edge Transport server role. The client access server role has been replaced by the client access service that runs on the Mailbox server role; the Mailbox server role now performs all the functions contained in the previous client access server role.
