VLAN is a virtual local area network that divides a Layer 2 network into multiple broadcast domains. It can effectively prevent broadcast storm, improve network security, simplify network management.

Next we will configure VLANs on GNS3 to split users in a broadcast domain into multiple broadcast domains.

First, create a new C3725 device in GNS3, add a Layer 2 service board, and set a disk size.

Modify device names and icons

Create 3 new VPC devices and connect them to SW with network cables respectively. Click All to enable them.

Now we set PC1 IP to 192.168.10.10

PC2 IP is 192.168.10.20

PC3 IP is 192.168.10.30

These three IPs are the same network segment. If VLAN division is not carried out, they can be interconnected.

Double-click SW to enter global mode. Enter command no ip routing to close routing function.

Now configure IP addresses for PC1, PC 2, PC 3

Now let's ping PC2 and PC3 with PC1 to see if they work together.

3 users are interconnected, experimental environment 1 satisfied, now start configuring VLAN

Enter sw in global mode, type VLAN 10, VLAN 20 to establish 2 VLANs, and in global mode, type do show vlan-switch brief to see if the establishment is successful.

After successful establishment, we will divide the ports into corresponding VLANs.

First enter the interface mode of f10, enter the command switchport mode access to enter the access link, and then enter the command switchport access vlan 10 to divide f10 into VLAN10.

f1/0 configured successfully. Then f1/1 and f1/2 are configured into VLAN20

After all configuration is complete, we can use PC1 to ping PC 2 and PC3 to see if they can connect.

Unable to connect, we'll ping PC 3 with PC2

Connection successful.

This shows that PC2 and PC3 are in the same broadcast domain, while PC1 and PC2,3 are not in the same broadcast domain. VLAN successfully divides 3 users of the same network segment into 2 unused broadcast domains.
