As we all know, the private network VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) is an isolated VPC. By default, VPC cannot communicate through the private network, and the ECS in the VPC cannot access the public network or be accessed by the public network, and VPC cannot access the classic network through the private network. So there is a question, how should cloud products be used in VPC?

Cloud products generally provide the following network access capabilities

One is the ability to access the public network.

For example, SLB provides public network instances, VPC ECS can provide public network access by binding EIP, and RDS Classic network provides external access domain names.

Second, the ability to access private network.

Compared with public network access, private network access is more secure, more stable and suitable for internal calls. Private network access capability is divided into classic network private network access and private network (VPC) private network access.

This article describes the private network access of private network (VPC), that is, how users access cloud products through private network within VPC.

Note: more than 95% of Aliyun's products that need to support VPC have been supported.

First of all, to avoid a misunderstanding, cloud products that require internal access must use the same network type. For example, if ECS uses VPC type, to access SLB and RDS instances through private network, then the SLB and RDS instances must also use VPC type, otherwise they cannot be accessed.

Secondly, in terms of providing (VPC) private network access, there are the following main ways:

One is to provide network type selection through the purchase page.

This approach is mainly based on example-based cloud products, such as ECS,RDS,SLB, which generally provide a choice of network type on the purchase page, and you can choose the network type of your proprietary network.

After these instances are purchased, they will get an instance of VPC type or access domain name, which is essentially an IP address in the user's VPC address field.

The second is to provide VPC private network access through the console.

Such as OTS, CCS, EMR,NAS and other cloud products. Users can set the VPC access domain name for OTS instances in the OTS console. When creating a cluster through the console, CCS and EMR can choose the network type. NAS products provide proprietary network VPC type mount points on the console. Users need to pay attention to the settings of the relevant product console.

Third, provide VPC private network access through documentation.

Finally, how to adjust the wrong network type?

For some example cloud products, cloud products provide the function of network switching. For example, database products such as RDS can switch network types in the console, switching from classic network to VPC network.

For ECS products, the ability to switch from classic networks to VPC networks will also be provided later.

For SLB products, switching from classic network instances to VPC network instances is not supported. Users can purchase a new instance of VPC type and mount VPC ECS.
