We all know that after the Exchange database is running for a period of time, the database will produce some blank space, which can not be used by the database, and the blank space will also take up physical disk space. Here's how to clean up the Exchange database to free up white space. (based on practical experience, it is risky to organize the database, which is not recommended until it is a last resort. It is personally recommended that the best practice is to create a new database, then migrate users of databases with a large amount of blank space to the new database, and then delete the database after the migration is complete.

Use the command Get-MailboxDatabase-Status | fl name,*space* to view the amount of white space in the database.

The first step is to enter the bin directory under the Exchange 2010 installation directory. In the Exchange 2010 Powershell, you can use the command cd $Exscripts to enter the Scripts directory of the Exchange installation directory and enter cd.. Enter the bin directory with cd.\ bin. As shown in the picture.

The second step is to uninstall the database. Open the Exchange 2010 EMC console, select the database, and uninstall the database. As shown in the picture.

The third step is to use commands to organize database files. Use commands in Exchange 2010 Powershell

Eseutil / d "E:\ Exchange Server\ V14\ Mailbox\ Ywb\ YWB.edb" organizes the database files, as shown in the figure.

According to the blank space of the database, the blank space of the database is about 40GB, which takes 4.45 hours. As shown in the picture

Step 4: after the database file is defragmented, load the database using the command mount-database-Identity YWB or using the Exchange 2010 EMC graphical interface. It is recommended that you make a full backup of the database immediately after the database is loaded normally.

Be careful

1. You need to pay special attention when using the command eseutil / D to defragment the database. Do not use this command unless it is a last resort. If the database object you need to defragment is a copy in DAG, you need to delete the database copy and re-add the database copy after the database defragmentation is complete.

2. The time of database disk defragmentation is not based on the actual EDB file size of the database, but on the size of the blank space of the database.
