Preparation before installation of soft routing

1. Install Windows 2000 Server on the computer that you want to set as soft routing.

3. Install the TCP/IP protocol in the computer that you want to set as soft routing, and configure the IP address information for the two network cards respectively (for example, 192.168.1.1 to 255.255.255.0 and 10.0.0.1 to 255.0.0.0), so that the two network cards are in two different IP network segments.

II. Installation of soft routing

Log in as the domain user administrator and do the following.

1. Click start / programs / Administrative tools / routing and remote access to open the routing and remote access window.

2. Click the Action menu, select the configure and enable routing and remote access command, run the routing and remote access Server installation Wizard, and click next.

3. Since we are going to install a router here, select the "Network Router" option and click "next".

4. Usually, only TCP/IP protocol and NetBEUI protocol are installed in local area network computers, and only TCP/IP protocol has routing function. The AppleTalk protocol is only used for communication between Apple computers. Because the TCP/IP protocol is already displayed in the protocols list, select the Yes, all available protocols are on the list option, and click next.

5. The remote access service is not installed in this example, so select No and do not use demand dial to access the remote network. Click [next].

6. Complete the routing and remote access Server installation Wizard, and click finish.

III. Setting of soft routing

1. Click start / programs / Administrative tools / routing and remote access to open the routing and remote access window.

Right-click the name of the server on which you want to enable routing, and then click Properties to display the Properties dialog box.

3. On the "General" tab, select the "Router" check box, and select the "for local area network (LAN) routing only" option, and click OK.

4. In the "routing and remote access" window, open the left directory tree "IP routing", right-click "General", and select "New routing Protocol" in the shortcut menu to display the "New routing Protocol" dialog box. (setting a static route can also achieve the interworking of two network segments)

5. Select "RIP version 2 for Internet protocol" in the routing Protocol list, and click "OK". Note that it is recommended to choose RIP protocol in small and medium-sized networks and OSPF protocol in large networks.

6. Right-click "RIP" in the directory tree, and select "New Interface" in the shortcut menu to display the "New Interface for RIP version 2 for Internet Protocol" dialog box.

7. Select the first network interface in the "Interface" list box, that is, "Local connection", and click [OK] to display the "RIP Properties" dialog box.

8. Take the system default value for RIP attribute, and click * * OK * *.

9. Repeat the above 6-8 operations to add a second network interface for RIP, that is, "Local connection 2".

IV. Configuration of the client

If you want to achieve the exchange of visits between computers in the 192.168.1.0 and 10.0.0.0 IP address fields, after installing and setting up IP routing, you must also set up the client accordingly. For computers in the 192.168.1.0 address range, their default gateway needs to be set to 192.168.1.1, and for computers in the 10.0.0.0 address field, their default gateway needs to be set to 10.0.0.1. The setting method is as follows:

1. Open "start / Control Panel / Network" and open the "Network" dialog box.

2. On the configuration tab, in the list of "the following network components have been installed", select "QXCOMM QN408 (3102A) PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" in "TCP/IP" (the network card installed in this example is omni-directional QN408), click the [Properties] button, and display the "TCP/IP Properties" dialog box.

3. Select the "Gateway" tab, in the "New Gateway" dialog box, type "192.168.1.1" (if the IP address is between 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.1.255) or "10.0.0.1" (if the IP address is between 10.0.0.0510.. 255.255.255), and click [add].

4. Click [OK], complete the gateway setting, and restart the computer according to the system prompts. After all the computers in the network set the default gateway, the exchange of visits between computers in different network segments can be realized.
