Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
Brief introduction of FTServer Server
Stratus FTServer series server is a standard fault-tolerant server with 99.999% continuous running time. This series of servers uses Intel's Xeon processor, integrates more than 30 years of technology and experience of Stratus in producing fault-tolerant computers, eliminates the complex operation and high cost burden of cluster systems, and provides an unprecedented guarantee of high reliability and continuous operation for the Windows environment. FTServer servers have an unparalleled price-to-performance ratio and are dedicated to a variety of businesses that require highly reliable processing power and remote management. Such as server integration, enterprise information transmission, small database applications, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain management, real-time data collection and other key business applications.
FTServer system startup and shutdown
The FTServer server needs to be connected to two power sources, one of which is recommended to use UPS output power, and the other to use municipal power to prevent system downtime caused by power failure. The FTServer server has a port on the back to connect the monitor, and there are three USB ports for connecting the keyboard and mouse. Try to use an independent mouse and keyboard when installing. If you use KVM, please choose a Stratus certified product (ATEN CS-1708 / CS-1708;AATEN CS-1717 / CS-1716A). After each CPU-I/O module is powered on to the AC, it will hear a "tick" sound, indicating that the BMC has been started successfully.
If we need to start the system, just power on the monitor first, and then press the front panel power button of FTServer; under normal circumstances, if you need to shut down the system, please use the normal shutdown process of Windows, for example: start-> shutdown-> OK. Windows handles the current file operation and shuts down the system.
When the system is running, if we press the front panel power button for a long time (more than 4 seconds), we can forcibly shut down the system operation (this may cause the system or application data to be destroyed, and the user should bear the corresponding risk).
If in some cases, such as Hung hovering occurs in the system, that is, the mouse and keyboard are not responding, use the NMI button on the main (primary) module, restart the system, and generate core dump information for fault analysis. The NMI button should be held for longer than 4 seconds and less than 8 seconds. The Dump file is stored in the C:\ ftSysDump directory.
System Management tool FTSMC (FTServer Management Console)
FTSMC is a graphical management tool for FTServer server, which is used to monitor and manage the software and hardware in FTServer system. In the hardware part, FTSMC displays a list of tree structure, indicating the current running status and parameters of various components in the system; in the software part, FTSMC monitors some events and running states in the system through FTServer Software Availability Manager software, and records and sends out corresponding alarms.
Run FTSMC
Click the "FTServer Management Tools" icon on the desktop, or open "ftServer.msc" under the directory where FTServer is located: X:\ Programm Files\ FTSYS\ Management.
In the FTSMC window, click to open "ftServer (Local)" or "ftServer Configuration" to view the details of each part (see figure below). The screen is mainly divided into four areas:
1. Action Band
Action bar-SMM Snap-in command menu
2. Console tree
Part Tree-displays each manageable part or object in the system
3. Details pane
Detail bar-displays the operation details of the parts clicked in the left widget tree
4. Status bar
Status bar-displays some status information for ftSMC
The meaning of various icons in FTSMC
There are several status icons in FTSMC that show the current running status of the widget, as follows
Indicates that there is no installed part at the node or that the part has been powered off
Indicates that the components of the node are working online and contain running information or child nodes
Indicates that the parts of the node are offline and may be being maintained
Indicates that the part of the node is in a double (mirrored) working state; the part can be safely removed
Indicates that the part of the node is in a single working state; the part cannot be removed
Indicates that the components of the node are offline and are being internally diagnosed
Some child nodes in the subassembly that represents the node have an error state
Indicates that the part of the node is offline or faulted
FTSMC cannot get the part details of this node
Indicates that some parameters in the components of the node have exceeded the threshold set by the system.
Display examples of common components in FTSMC
The CPU and IO parts of the ftServer server are run in a chassis, which we call the CPU-I/O module, but appear as two separate parts in the ftSMC: CPU Enclosure (for rack servers, unit 0 above and unit 1 below); and I Enclosure (for rack servers, unit 10 above and unit 11 below).
Check the status of the CPU unit
The CPU unit has two running states: Duplex (duplex) and Simplex (simplex). You can see the current CPU unit model, serial number, memory, CPU processor, BIOS version and other information through FTSMC:
Check the status of the Icano unit
There are usually Duplex (full duplex) and Simplex (simplex) running states in the IWeiO unit, and the other two IAccord O units are also divided into active (Primary) and standby (Secondary) states, which refers to whether the Icano part of the IWeiO unit is in the working state or backup state, such as which unit is driving the display. Through FTSMC, you can also see the model number, serial number, hard disk, Ethernet port, working status of other PCI adapters and other information about the current Iamp O unit.
Check the connection of Ethernet and the physical port of HBA card
Through FTSMC, you can check the network cable connection of the Ethernet port in the FTServer system, as well as the connection status of the HBA card fiber port.
Manually start a CPU or Istroke O unit
You can manually restart a CPU or Imax O unit through FTSMC while erasing existing MTBF data. Use this operation when a CPU or Imax O unit is automatically removed from the service by the system.
1. Select the unit you want to operate in FTSMC, right-click, pop-up command menu, select Initiate BringDown, and confirm the action.
two。 Select the unit you want to operate in FTSMC, right mouse button, pop-up command menu, and select Clear MTBF. And confirm the operation.
3. Select the unit you want to operate in FTSMC, right-click, pop-up command menu, select Initiate BringUp, and confirm the action.
Fault tolerance settings of the network
Each CPU-IO module of the FTServer server has two built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports. Usually, in order to ensure the fault tolerance of the network, the four network ports need to be set into two logical network cards, namely Teaming, through the built-in Intel PROSet software of the system.
Add a new virtual network card (Team)
Open the device Manager (right-click my computer, click manage, and then select device Manager). After clicking the Network Adapter option, you can see four built-in network cards.
Right-click a network card that needs to be added to the virtual network card, click "Properties", select the "Teaming" page, then select the "Team with other adapters" option, and then click the "New Team" button to enter the wizard to create a virtual network card.
You need to determine the name of the virtual network card (Team) and click the "Next" button. On the "Select the adapters to include in this team" page, check the name of the physical network card to which you need to add the virtual network card (click the "Identify" button of the network card to physically locate the location of the network card), and then select the fault-tolerant mode (usually take the default AFT-Adapter Fault Tolerance mode, if you choose ALB-Adaptive Load Balancing mode, you need to remove the Receive Load Balancing option, otherwise the MAC address of the virtual network card will be changed irregularly). Finally, click "Finish" to generate a virtual network card. The system will automatically generate a virtual network device, and we can view the newly generated virtual network card in the "Network connection" of Windows and rename it.
TCP/IP parameter setting of virtual network card
After the virtual network card is created, the TCP/IP network parameters should be set for the virtual network card, and the original two physical network cards can no longer be set; otherwise, it may cause ambiguous problems and affect the normal use of the network.
In the Network connection of Windows, right-click the virtual network card you want to set, and click Properties-> TCP/IP-> Click
"Properties", enter the TCP/IP parameter setting window, and set the IP parameter (see figure below)
After setting the TCP/IP parameters of the virtual network card, you can open a DOS window and execute the "ipconfig / all" command to check the setting result.
Change the way the virtual network card works
You can change the way the existing virtual network card works through the setup wizard of the PROSet software. (see figure below)
Set the transmission rate and working mode of the network card
The transmission rate and working mode of a physical network port can be set by PROSet software. (see figure below)
Hard disk mirroring and checking
The internal hard disk image in the FTServer server system needs to be implemented using Stratus's RDR (Rapid Disk Resync) software.
Each module of the Ftserver is configured with 8 internal 2.5-inch SAS disk slots, as shown in the figure:
The upper module is composed of CPU Enclosure- 0 and Imax O Enclosure-10, and the lower module is composed of CPU Enclosure-1 and Imax O Enclosure-11 (corresponding to ftSMC tool).
As shown in the figure, the location of the internal disk in the FTSMC management tool should be O Enclosure-10 à Storage Enclosure- 40 à Slot-1 (numbered 0 on the front panel). The DevicePath is 10Accord 5Uniplex 0 (the 8 internal disks are 10Accord5UniUniplex 0-7, followed by a number representing the slot number), and the DevicePathId is 10Accord40qqqxx, where 1 is the slot number and x is the number after the disk name).
The disk name in Windows Disk Management corresponds to that in ftSMC as follows:
Internal disk status:
RDR logical disk status information:
Create a virtual hard disk for RDR
Before the hard drives corresponding to the same slot in the two CPU-IO chassis are not added to the RDR virtual disk, the two hard drives must be checked. They must be hard drives of the same type and size. Then, first, one of them is used to create the corresponding RDR virtual disk. In FTSMC, click ftServer Enclosure O Enclosure 10-> Storage Enclosure 40-> Slot x, then click Disk-x, right-click and choose menu, select "Create RDR Virtual Disk" command to create the corresponding virtual hard disk.
The method of adding a hard disk to RDR
In FTSMC, click ftServer I Enclosure O Enclosure 11-> Storage Enclosure 40-> Slot x, and then
Click Disk-x, right-click, then choose menu, choose "Add Physical Disk To RDR Virtual Disk" command, you can add the current Slot x hard disk to the RDR virtual hard drive group. (the hard disk must be a Basic hard disk; there is no RDR configuration information on the hard disk, and the hard disk must have more than 10MB free space;)
In the RDR wizard, a prompt before mirroring will appear. Please carefully check the physical paths of the "source" and "destination" hard drives to avoid causing the data to be overwritten in the reverse direction.
After clicking the "Finish" button, RDR starts mirroring the hard disk; you can check the progress in FTSMC.
Status of virtual hard disk after completing mirroring
If the second hard disk in the RDR grouping is the original hard disk containing data partition, the system will prompt the hard disk to contain the error message of data partition when doing RDR. If you still want to force the RDR mirror, you need to manually delete the data partition on the hard disk (in the disk management of Windows), delete the RDR information in the disk, and then add RDR operation.
The use of RDR Virtual hard disk
After you create a RDR virtual hard disk, the virtual hard disk can be seen in disk Management in Windows, while the corresponding two physical hard drives no longer appear.
The use of a virtual hard disk is the same as that of a single physical hard disk in Windows, and users do not have to consider the problem of mirroring. Virtual disks generated in RDR are all basic disks (Basic). It can be used as a physical hard disk in a Windows system. In Windows's "disk Management", you can partition, format, change the drive letter and other operations on the virtual hard disk.
Check the Windows version of the FTServer system and other information
Right-click the "my computer" property on the desktop to see the Windows version and SP level of the current system, as well as the current ftSSS software version, and the amount of memory recognized by the operating system.
For example, the screen shows that this server is ftServer4800, running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition, 64-bit operating system. The hardware is configured with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 CPU,32GB memory.
View the Service running in the background of Stratus in FTServer
In the Stratus Ftserver Windows server, the following background services are running, as shown in the figure:
When the system is working properly, these services that start with ftSys should be running.
In particular, the following two Service are the key to the normal operation of FTServer:
FtSysInventory:Manages the inventory of hardware and software associated with the server.
FtSysMad: Provides maintenance and diagnostic capabilities for managing fault-tolerance.
The original factory information label of FTServer system
When each ftServer server leaves the factory, there is an original factory information label on the back rack. On this tag, there are the model number, serial number, date of manufacture, and Site ID (this is a globally unique code that identifies the system, which is required for many maintenance of user systems).
Fault declaration and information collection
In general, the end user should first respond to the problem to the agent and find a solution to the problem. If the agent is unable to solve the problem, the agent will turn to Stratus CAC for help and collect the following information:
Machine information

Updates to Hotfix and Service Pack (SP) patches on Windows
Stratus ftServer servers use Windows 2003 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition as the operating system, but because of the special physical structure of ftServer, a small part of the underlying hardware drivers of Microsoft have been covered by Stratus drivers, so not every Hotfix and ServicePack announced by Microsoft can be installed. Before you plan to install these patches, especially before upgrading ServicePack, please go to Stratus's ASM page to confirm that it can be installed, or call the Stratus technical service personnel to ask. In principle, patches on software will not have any impact on the system, while patches involving hardware, virtual hardware, or underlying drivers may have some unpredictable impact on fault-tolerant server systems)
