If you run Forefront TMG without first running the preparation tool, and if your computer does not contain the required applications, the Forefront TMG installation may fail. If these applications are not already installed on your computer, the preparation tool downloads and installs them.

Note: after running the preparation tool, you must restart your computer before you can install Forefront TMG.

To run the preparation tool:

On the installation Type page, select the desired installation type option:

Forefront TMG services and management.

Forefront TMG management only

Enterprise Management Server (EMS) for centralized array management

The preparation tool downloads and installs prerequisites based on the type of Forefront TMG installation selected.

On the ready page of the preparation tool, select start the Forefront TMG installation Wizard and click finish.
