The open source hosting service GitLab announced the release of Web IDE, which allows users to edit files directly on the GitLab website without installing any programs. The idea for Web IDE was originally proposed by Jacob Schatz, a developer at the company. Jacob Schatz noticed that it was very difficult for non-programmers to edit files and submit changes, so he first developed a proof-of-concept prototype and started the development of Web IDE.

­Jacob Schatz lets it remove the page refresh feature when switching files and edit it through branches rather than each file.

­in the early days of development, it was called the Code Warehouse Editor, and the goal of GitLab was to provide a true integrated development experience that could be accessed even in the GitLab user interface without installing any software.
