Under the double pressure of cloud computing and big data, who has become the bottleneck of data flow within the data center? The answer is that the Istroke O card that carries the data stream is more likely to become the bottleneck of data transmission. Emulex, which specializes in data center network connectivity, monitoring and management, is trying to give full play to the high-performance and low-latency characteristics of its products in the era of cloud computing. As a partner, Huawei evaluates Emulex's products as follows: Huawei's FusionSphere cloud operating system strives to create an efficient and convenient cloud service platform, and the Emulex Emulex O connection solution is an ideal choice for this cloud service platform to meet the stringent Imax O requirements.

Just entering 2014, Emulex released the OneConnect OCe14000 series of 10/40GbE network adapters, the next generation of high-performance Ethernet connectivity solutions for virtualization, enterprise and cloud data centers, which enable higher virtual machine density and support secure hybrid clouds through a virtual network architecture. This new solution leverages RDMA over Converged Ethern-based low-latency architecture for application acceleration and provides an open application programming interface to integrate SDN solutions.

Shaun Walsh, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Enterprise Development of Emulex, summed up the characteristics of OCe14000 into the following three points: higher performance, programmability, and support for software-defined networks. OCe14000 can not only meet the high-performance network connection requirements of ordinary enterprise users, but also meet the networking needs of cloud service providers and telecom operators.

Shaun Walsh outlines the main technical features of OCe14000. First, high-performance virtualization is achieved because it uses efficient and scalable hardware offload technology to offload the overhead of the virtual network. When used for VMware VirtualWire connections, OCe14000's CPU utilization is 50% higher than the standard NIC, which increases the number of virtual machines that can be supported per server. In addition, OCe14000 has higher performance when dealing with small packets, making it easy to apply transaction-intensive applications and cluster applications. Second, OCe14000 provides fast, secure, and scalable hybrid cloud connectivity. Emulex Virtual Network Exceleration offload technology provides 70% higher performance than the software implementation method of the emerging virtual network architecture standard. Finally, OCe14000 can provide open support for software-defined networks. Emulex has introduced a new tool for SURF to open API and deploy SDN. These interfaces and tools can be optimized for next-generation applications such as OpenStack and OpenFlow and new industry standards.

How will Emulex respond to the cloud data center's requirements for higher bandwidth, shorter latency and higher IOPS performance for network connectivity? Shaun Walsh responded that users should look at the cloud as a whole. There are three main challenges to network connectivity posed by cloud data centers. First, achieve a secure connection. Emulex's ExpressLane, NVGRE and other technologies can ensure a secure connection. Second, the network should have open programmability. Emulex has an OpenFlow-enabled SDN solution that supports modules such as open storage and open computing, so it can support a very large-scale cloud. Third, reduce the delay. Emulex's products can speed up the operation of Hadoop clusters and accelerate servers.

"in the era of cloud computing, users need low-cost, high-performance network connection solutions. Huawei's software and Emulex hardware can meet the needs of users." Li Yan, vice president of cloud computing products for IT product line of Huawei Technology Co., Ltd., said of Huawei's cooperation with Emulex, "in the era of software definition, it does not mean that the hardware is not important, but to consider how to give full play to the value of the hardware to provide support for the implementation of software functions. Some of the work previously handled by software is now implemented by Emulex boards, which can greatly improve the performance of processing."

While releasing OCe14000, Emulex also announced that the boards of Emulex BladeEngine 3 Ethernet and Emulex Engine 201 converged network architecture controllers have passed the Huawei FusionSphere cloud operating system compatibility test and obtained Huawei Ready certification, with good hardware and system coordination and superior performance. Li Yan said that Emulex's products play an important role in Huawei's converged solution, which can accelerate the migration of Huawei FusionSphere, greatly improve its performance, and is also part of Huawei SDN end-to-end solution.
