This article will give you a detailed explanation on how to install Suse Linux. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you for reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.
I've been working on Suse Linux recently, and there are a lot of problems with it. If there is a problem, you have to think, and only by thinking can you solve the problem. The most convenient thing about Suse Linux should be YaST. The development of YaST began in January 1995. It is written in C++ based on the ncurses interface by Thoamas Fehr (one of the founders of the Suse project) and Michael Andres. YaST is a central management and installation tool for most administrative tasks. YaST is an essential part of Suse Linux. It can be deleted only if the user is convinced that it is absolutely no longer needed. Open Suse is a community version developed from Suse Linux.
Today we are talking about the installation of Open Suse software. We mainly use the component "software management" of YaST.
In this case, a group friend installed gcc in order to compile the software.
Start YaST-Software Management and search for "gcc" in search mode.
He found only the following bags:
Cpp41
Gcc-gij
Libgcc41
Libgcj41
Obviously, installing the gcc compilation environment requires more than these packages.
By checking the software source (software repositories), it is found that the software source has only one network source. And the CD software source is not enabled.
Generally speaking, there are two kinds of software sources in terms of function, one is the upgrade source (updata) that provides the upgrade, and the other is the installation source. (upgrades are also available from some installation sources). Installation sources include installation CDs, installation images (such as iso), and network installation sources (for example, from http://download.Open Suse.org/repositories). The amount of software that can be carried by CDs and images is affected by the size of the media. The dvdiso of Open Suse should contain less software than http://download.Open Suse.org/repositories, which belongs to the < relationship. Most upgrade sources provide upgrade-only packages.
From the above information, we can infer that in this case, the software source is the upgrade source and does not contain all the packages required by gcc. At this point, we need to add an installation source to Open Suse. Click YaST-Software Source to add the installation source. It's very simple. I don't want to talk about it step by step.
In terms of convenience, as long as there is something on hand on the Open Suse CD, do not use the network installation source. The speed of the network source is unstable and slow due to some relations (such as network speed). When Open Suse is installed, YaST will remember your installation media as an installation source. If you install with a CD, you will be prompted to insert the CD into the CD drive every time you use it. If the hard disk space is large enough, I recommend placing Open Suse's DVD ISO in a directory on your hard disk that will not change the directory name as the installation source, and then delete the CD installation source. This is very convenient for frequent software management, and green:).
Here comes the question again: if you add a local source (installation CD, installation image) and network installation source at the same time, and search for a software package from both sources, which software management of YaST will choose?
Through practice, I found that software management will give priority to local sources. Maybe it's because "the network source is unstable and slow due to some relationship (such as network speed)"? At the same time, if the network source has an update, it will show that the network source has an updated version.
After adding the installation source, search for gcc, and it will soon be available and ready to install and use.
At this time, another question is raised: can it be installed separately without adding a source?
The answer is yes, of course, we can install it by searching for packages. This requires you to know what related packages you need, find them all and install them one by one. Easy, you can search the rpm package here in http://packages.Open Suse-community.org/ according to the corresponding version, this place has a feature, you can click the button on the right to install after the search, this is Open Suse's famous "one-click installation", a very good innovation.
One more question: what if the source I can find doesn't have the software I want?
The answer is simpler. Search the software with a search engine and find the home page to download the rpm package corresponding to the system. (note: debian system uses deb package, which is very similar to redhat system rpm package, each has its own advantages). If there is no rpm package, you will find the source code to compile, usually ending with tar.gz. Some special software is a package with the suffix of bin (such as Realplayer) or sh (such as Crossover), while others can simply extract the software from the compressed package (such as LumaQQ, Mutilget, LinuxQQ's tar.gz package). As far as the Open Suse release is concerned, in terms of stability and convenience, I suggest that you have rpm and try to use the rpm package instead of looking for the source code. Open Suse is the environment managed by rpm package software, and the rpm environment has been installed by default (introduction and application of RPM). Compilation requires an environment. You need to install a lot of tools and libraries to compile a software. I remember a time when I added about 500m of stuff to compile svn's eva, including tools and libraries needed for svn and the compilation environment. To install with rpm, I only need to download a rpm, which is no more than 10m. And the compilation time is about 30-60 minutes, while it only takes 1-2 minutes to install a rpm. However, we have to admit that compiling software has its advantages, especially for software such as mplayer, which is strongly recommended for better performance, even officially. This is what I think about when I install Suse Linux.
