In the twinkling of an eye, 2020 is halfway past. During this period, instigated by the "black swan" of the epidemic, telecommuting ushered in the development of a new tuyere. The new infrastructure will press the "acceleration key" of industrial digitization to promote investment in new infrastructure such as 5G, the Internet of things, the Internet of vehicles, the Industrial Internet and so on. The acquisitions of Internet giants also emerge one after another. Next, the editor will take an inventory of some hot events that took place in the network industry in the first half of the year.

1. The Wi-Fi Alliance has published the Wi-Fi 6e standard, which supports the 6GHz band.

In January 2020, the Wi-Fi Alliance announced that Wi-Fi 6 will be extended from the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands to the 6GHz band, and the Wi-Fi 6 that supports the 6GHz band will be uniformly named "Wi-Fi 6e".

The new 6GHz in Wi-Fi 6e can solve the problem of insufficient Wi-Fi band by providing continuous spectrum bands to accommodate 14 additional 80MHz channels and 7 additional 160MHz channels.

Wi-Fi 6e has more channels and wider spectrum space; the interference between Wi-Fi networks will be reduced; faster, more stable and other advantages.

Phil Solis, director of IDC research, said: "because the Wi-Fi potential of the 6GHz band is huge, people's use of it may increase rapidly."

CEO Edgar Figueroa, president of the Wi-Fi Alliance, said, "6GHz will help meet the increased demand for Wi-Fi spectrum from smart devices and give users a good experience."

Second, the state has vigorously promoted new infrastructure investment, and the curtain of 5G network construction has been opened.

In December 2018, the Central Economic work Conference redefined infrastructure construction, defining 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet and Internet of things as "new infrastructure construction". In July 2019, the political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting and proposed to "speed up the construction of new infrastructure such as information networks."

In March 2020, the standing Committee of the political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting and stressed the need to increase investment in public health services and emergency supplies, and speed up the construction of new infrastructure such as 5G networks and data centers. At this point, the new infrastructure plate "stands on the tuyere".

The new infrastructure will accelerate the wave of the fourth industrial revolution in China, which will promote the industrialization of digital economy and bring huge investment to the information infrastructure, big data and other industries involved. Fundamentally transform traditional industries to form an industrial Internet of things with subversive significance. With the blessing of the policy, 5G and other new infrastructure projects have accelerated their landing in various places.

III. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Circular on further promoting the all-round Development of Mobile Animal networking

In May 2020, the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued the Circular on further promoting the all-round Development of Mobile Animal networking. Among them, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has deployed five key tasks, including network construction, technical standards, industry applications, industrial system, and security.

The aim is to accurately grasp the evolution trend of global mobile animal networking technology standards and industrial pattern, promote the transfer of 2G/3G Internet of things business, and establish a comprehensive ecosystem of mobile animal networking with the coordinated development of NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of things), 4G (4G network with LTE-Cat1, that is, 4G network of rate category 1) and 5G.

On the basis of deepening the coverage of 4G network and speeding up the construction of 5G network, we use NB-IoT to meet the needs of most low-speed scenarios, LTE-Cat1 (hereinafter referred to as Cat1) to meet the needs of medium-speed Internet of things and voice needs, and 5G technology to meet the needs of higher-speed and low-delay networking.

By the end of 2020, the NB-IoT network will achieve universal coverage in the main urban areas of cities at or above the county level, with deep coverage in key areas; the number of mobile animal networking connections will reach 1.2 billion; promote the convergence of NB-IoT module prices with 2G modules, guide the migration of new Internet of things terminals to NB-IoT and Cat1; and create a number of NB-IoT application benchmarking projects and NB-IoT million connection scale application scenarios.

4. Cisco announces the acquisition of Fluidmesh to enhance access to the Internet of things

In April 2020, Cisco announced that it would acquire Fluidmesh Networks, which provides wireless backhaul systems that connect devices to the Internet of things. The move will enable Cisco to sell network connections to transportation companies, mining operators and other companies that want to have their own private wireless networks.

Fluidmesh's technology is valuable for achieving zero data transmission loss when trains are moving rapidly or when Wi-Fi coverage is incomplete, and the company's platforms are used in a variety of operations, including railways, ports and public transport.

Cisco said the program aims to integrate Fluidmesh into Cisco's Internet of things business unit in order to expand its industrial wireless services to more industries and customer areas. In addition, Cisco plans to use Fluidmesh's professional sales team and system integrator relationship to expand the scope of its Internet of things business.

"Cisco has been working with FluidmeshNetworks for many years to use the company's backhaul technology for specific IoT deployments," said Vikas Butaney, vice president of Internet of things business at Cisco. Over the past few years, Cisco has invested heavily in the Internet of things, and its main goal is to provide an intent-based network at the edge.

VMware acquires Nyansa to expand the field of SD-WAN

In January 2020, VMware today announced plans to acquire Palo Alto, Calif.-based Nyansa, which provides AI-based network analytics. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of VMware's 2021 fiscal year. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

VMware plans to combine Nyansa Voyance, the AIOps platform for network analysis and security of the Internet of things, with VeloCloud's VMware SD-WAN. By adding software-defined capabilities to Wi-Fi and LAN devices, this combination will help VMware further extend its portfolio to enterprise campuses and branch offices so that users can get comprehensive data on network traffic and application performance.

Sanjay Uppal, vice president of VMware and general manager of VeloCloud's business unit, said in a statement: "the acquisition of Nyansa will accelerate VMware's ability to provide end-to-end monitoring and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN deployments in industry-leading SD-WAN solutions. Nyansa is a proven solution that addresses many of the shortcomings of today's vendor-specific solutions."

VMware's existing SD-WAN services are based on its acquisition of VeloCloud in 2017 and can be troubleshooting and optimized over the WAN. Nyansa will extend these services to LAN,VMware and previously provided optimization services in the data center through its vRealize Network Insight (VRNI).
