In Windows Server 2012, WSUS is an installable server role for managing and assigning updates. The WSUS server can be used as an update source for other WSUS servers in the organization. The WSUS server that acts as the source of the update is called the upstream server. During the WSUS implementation, at least one WSUS server in the network must connect to Microsoft updates to obtain available update information. Administrators can determine how other servers connect directly to Microsoft updates based on network security and configuration.

In this deployment, my demo environment consists of the following machines, each with different server roles and functions installed.

Experimental tools:

VMware Version 12

Experimental environment:

One DC (Win2K12 R2), two WSUS Server (upstream and downstream relationships) (Win2K12 R2), and two test clients (Win 8.1)

Introduction to the deployment environment:

DC Server

Operating system: Windows Server 2012 R2

First-level WSUS server

Operating system: Windows Server 2012 R2

IP: 192.168.10.101
