Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

Over the past decade, small high-end crossovers have become so popular that you wonder why it took so long to update QX50 in the UK and Finidi. The SUV, the smallest luxury brand, made its debut as the 2008 EX35 in late 2007. Except for some changes along the way, especially the larger engine in 2013, the renamed QX50 in 2014 and the longer wheelbase in 2016 are essentially the same car. Although its popularity has risen again since the 2016 update, QX50 still lags behind new competitors such as BMW X3, Lexus NX and Mercedes-Benz GLCs.

The luxury carmaker hopes to turn things around with a redesigned 2019 Infineon QX50. The 2019 QX50 looks the same as the three-row QX60 and enjoys a number of improvements, including larger loading area, more spacious rear seats and groundbreaking engine technology. The QX50 is also the first finidi in the UK to be equipped with the ProPilot Assist Advanced driver Assistance system, which allows drivers to navigate with minimal input. On paper, Finidi has done his homework, done well across the border, and can move forward with the headlines of this market segment. We traveled through Los Angeles County from Santa Monica to a driveway in West Hollywood to see if we could offer a new QX50.

Luxury cottage, but not without shortcomings.

The interior of the QX50 is amazing, especially if you order a top Essence model with luxurious sensory and signature bags. The cabin features an interesting combination of white quilted leather interior, brown leather markings and door curtains, blue suede inserts and white perforated wood finishes. Of course, we didn't expect the UK and Finidi to act so boldly, but the colorimetric and high-quality materials were impressive. Those looking for more conservative monochrome or bicolor interiors can simply omit the signature package. Even in these forms, straight black interiors or a combination of beige and brown, the QX50 looks upscale.

Although the last model took nearly a decade to comfortably accommodate four adults, the new QX50 offers considerable interior space outside the door. For most people, the head and legroom are good, but tall passengers face some challenges. If there is a panoramic skylight, rear passengers may have to move their seats back to one of their nine tilted positions to avoid rubbing the roof. A hard front seat back and lack of a cab can affect tall rear passengers behind front passengers of the same height, but both can be solved with minimal operation. The middle seat position is not ideal for adults because the headrest only rises near the bottom of the neck. On the other hand, the cargo hold is a generous department in 31.

QX50's behavior on the road was mixed. In order to adapt to luxury intersections, wind and engine noise levels should be kept to a minimum when driving at high speed. Unfortunately, the noise of 20-inch tires is much lower than that of 19-inch wheels. Smaller wheels also have an added benefit: they can better smooth small bumps and make vehicles feel less nervous on poorly maintained roads. The larger wheels are bundled with the Sensory suit, so you have to choose between an inspirational interior and a soft ride experience.

With its powerful 3.7L V6 engine, acceleration has always been one of the powerful packaging of QX50. However, fuel economy lags far behind competitors who switched to turbocharged four-cylinder engines a few years ago. In 2019, QX50 followed suit by packaging a new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the CVT-with 268 horsepower and 280lb-ft of torque. Front wheel drive is standard for all decorations, and the all-wheel drive power system is optional at an extra charge of $1800.

Four-cylinder engine is the first application of variable compression engine in mass production vehicles. During slight acceleration and cruising, the compression ratio increases and the engine runs in Atkinson cycles to maximize fuel efficiency. The heavy accelerator pushes the turbocharger into high gear and triggers a reduction in the compression ratio to avoid engine knock. In general, the system promises better fuel economy during cruising and more power when you need it. The EPA's official estimate has not yet been released, but Britain's Finidi says the QX50's integrated front-wheel drive speed is 27 mpg,AWD and 26 mpg. If these figures are accurate, QX50 will be 1 to 5 miles per gallon more efficient than all its competitors.

On the way

In the real world, although QX50 acceleration is not without quirks, it's hard to say anything unusual. When the accelerator pedal stops completely and is fixed on the floor, the QX50 needs several beats to reach the speed of the highway. If you touch the throttle during exercise, the opposite is true. Pedal pressing, transmission ratio change and turbocharger slide valve combine almost instantly to push you back to your seat. It accelerates so fast that there is little need to implement the plan through action. Between these two extremes is how QX50 responds to more typical rolling throttle applications. You have to be careful to stop from standard driving mode, because when the engine really wakes up and pushes the QX50 forward, it's still in the early stages of the pedal stroke. At higher speeds, acceleration is more natural and linear, but in crowded city streets, some people need to get used to it.

If you like mountain climbing and want to reach the metropolitan area, please rest assured that QX50 can easily control a set of bends without sweating. The body movement of our all-wheel drive tester is controlled at high-speed sweepers and emergency corners in the Santa Monica Mountains without the screams of tires. In fact, it is this turning point that weakens our confidence in the tortuous road. When the wheel is away from the dead point, the position pointed by the QX50 wheel is usually difficult to determine with little force and little weight accumulation. One possible explanation is that our tester is equipped with finidi's direct adaptive steering system (included in the ProActive package), and vehicles without it may.

It feels more natural on the winding road.

Self-motivated

Including a $995 destination fee, the starting price for the UK-Finidi QX50 in 2019 is 3.

$7545; that's about the average price of a luxury crossover, less than the equivalent of BMW, Cadillac or Volvo. Its basic Pure decoration is fully equipped with standard 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, electric back doors, imitation leather interior, two touch screens (8-inch upper and 7-inch lower), four USB ports, and satellite and HD radio. It also includes a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking.

There are no option packs available for QX50 Pure, so those looking for additional facilities must upgrade to an intermediate Luxe ($40395). It adds panoramic skylights, roof rails, automatic dimming rearview mirrors and blind spot monitoring. Heating the front seat is a $550 option. Top Essential decorations ($44345) further add automatic wipers, leather interiors, navigation systems, dual touch screens, three-zone climate control, 360-degree parking cameras, heated rearview mirrors and front and rear parking sensors.

Many feature packs apply only to the Essential model. These include the Premium Audio ($900) package-adding a 16-speaker Bose sound system-and the ProAssist package ($550), which combines adaptive cruise control and rear cross alarm with automatic reverse braking.

There is also a premium heated seat kit ($1200), which adds heated front seats, driver seat memory settings and an adjustable steering wheel for heating and power. The ProActive kit ($2000) includes automatic high lights, heads-up displays, Infiniti direct adaptive steering and ProPilot aids-enhanced adaptive cruise control, automatic parking system and lane departure warning and intervention.

If you want an interior like the one shown in these pictures, you must choose two additional, very expensive boxes. The $7500 Sensory package adds Premium Audio and Premium Heated Seats sets, plus 20-inch rims, premium leather, ventilated front seats, faux suede roofs and other upgrades. The Autograph package ($2000) made its debut on QX50 with a white leather interior and a blue suede trim on the front. Traction kits with traction hooks and upgraded oil coolers and radiators can be used on AWD models with Sensory kits.

Bottom line

The Infiniti QX50 has been greatly improved on the cars it replaced in 2019, with more spacious cabins, larger cargo cabins, luxurious interior reservations and new engine technology that combines efficiency and performance. Overall, it is not the most exciting compact luxury crossover, but it is of great value in an unknown area.
