Nearby sharing is one of the fastest and easiest ways to transfer photos, videos, and other data from one Android or Chrome OS device to another, similar to how Apple AirDrop works. However, the feature has always lacked the ability to send a file to more than one recipient at a time, and Google is finally solving the problem.

Google was testing its ability to share files to multiple target devices as early as March last year and launched it to some people around September, but so far it has not reached everyone. "the new update makes it easy to share with more than one person at a time, not just one person at a time," the company said in a blog post on Thursday. "during transmission, you can add more recipients with a tap. It is now being launched on all Android 6 + devices."

This feature works the same way as a regular nearby shared transport-just select nearby sharing from the sharing menu of any application and you will see a list of available devices. By default, your phone or tablet will only be displayed to those who have you in your contacts, but this can be changed by clicking the Settings button. Google didn't mention the maximum number of recipients, but when we tested it last year, the most were the other four devices.

This is just one of several features that Google launched widely on Thursday, including digital health screen time widgets, blurred Google photo portraits for all Android devices (subscribe to Google One anyway), and new features for Google messaging apps. Nearby Share itself is a relatively new supplement to Android because it first appeared in August 2020 and is applicable to all devices running Android version 6.0 or later. Last June, with the release of Chrome OS 91, it was also extended to all Chromebook.
