Environment description:

Users purchased office 365E3. All users are managed on the local AD, and Azure AD is deployed locally to synchronize users to office 365.

Problem description:

The msExchHideFromAddressLists property of a single user is modified to true on the local AD, and then synchronized through Azure AD, it is found that this property is not synchronized successfully, but there is no relevant error message on the Azure AD.

Troubleshooting process:

View synchronization information on Azure AD, no synchronization error message found

By checking the attributes of this user on the local AD, it is found that the mailnickname value is empty.

From this, it is found that the problem lies with Azure AD because there is a policy on the synchronization policy editor of Azure AD, as shown in the following figure:

Synchronization related properties:

The above policy states that the msExchHideFromAddressLists property will be synchronized only if the mailnickname is not empty.
