Practical environment: IBM X3850 service, 8 HDD 300G hard drives

The server will raid the hard disk before installing the system to ensure the security, reliability and performance improvement of the data. Today, make an IBM server to use, then record the configuration process, and introduce the practice of raid in detail. This time I configured raide5, and other raide are more or less the same.

1. After the server starts up, wait a few minutes, enter the array card prompt, follow the prompt to enter the array card, press the key for Ctrl+H to enter the raid card option, and click "start" to start the configuration, as shown in the following figure:

2. In the configuration interface, click the "configuration wizard" option, as shown in the following figure:

3. Select "new configuration". Note: after selection, it will be clear that all the data of the array card now (you need to back up the original data). If you want to add a new disk to the original array group, select "add configuration". I will re-create the raid here, so select "new configuration" and click "next", as shown below:

4. Click "yes" to confirm, as shown in the following figure:

5. The option for "manual configuration" is manual configuration, and the option for "automatic configuration" is automatic configuration. I choose "manual configuration" manual configuration here. Click "next", as shown in the following figure:

6. Select the hard disk to be configured. "Drices" on the left is the hard disk recognized by the server. Add the hard disk of the raid to be created to the "Drices groups" on the right. Press add to array to select the driver groups from the left to the right, as shown below:

7. After selecting, click "Accept DG", as shown in the following figure:

8. Click "next", as shown below:

9. From the "Array With Free Space" on the left, select the newly made "Drices group", click "Add to SPAN" to add to the "Span" on the right, and then click "next", as shown in the following figure:

10. In the "virtual disk definition" configuration interface, RAID Level is selected at the raid level, and after selecting the parameters (I configure raid5 here, and you can also see the total size of the hard disk here), keep the rest by default. Click "Update Size", and then you can see the total size of "Select Size". Click "Accept" to accept the configuration, and click "next" as shown in the following figure:

11. Prompt to initialize clear data, and click "yes", as shown in the following figure:

12. To see that a "VD 0" has been created, click "next", as shown in the following figure:

13. Go back to the main interface, where you can see the status of the array. Each hard disk in the array is online Online. Click "Accept" to complete the configuration, as shown in the following figure:

14. You will be prompted to initialize the newly created VD, and click "yes", as shown in the following figure:

15. After initializing raid, click "yes" to save the configuration, as shown in the following figure:

16. At this point, the additional configuration for creating RAID   5 has been completed. When you go back to the Home main interface, you can see that the VD status is Optimal  , and the 8 hard drives are all Online  , as shown below:

17. Click "VD Progress Info" to see the progress of initialization, as shown in the following figure:

After completion, Exit   exits Web BIOS and restarts the server to install OS and other operations.
