Many friends who do security monitoring and wireless coverage projects know a lot about PoE power supply and recognize the benefits of PoE power supply, but they find that there are many limitations in PoE deployment when cabling in the actual project. For example, traditional wiring methods are still used when the upper-end switches and lower-end terminal devices do not support PoE.
It is well known that the traditional wiring method has high wiring cost and labor cost, which is not conducive to the follow-up maintenance. This paper discusses the four engineering application methods of PoE power supply. After being familiar with these four methods, the convenience of PoE power supply can be used to reduce annoyance in any scene.
First, both switches and terminals support PoE
In this method, the PoE switch is directly connected through the network cable to the wireless AP and webcam that supports PoE power. This method is the easiest, but you should also pay attention to the following two points:
1. Determine whether the PoE switch and wireless AP or webcam are standard PoE devices.
2. To carefully confirm the specifications of the purchased network cable, the quality of the network cable is very critical, and the poor quality of the network cable will cause the AP or IPC to be unable to receive power or keep restarting.
Second, the switch supports PoE and the terminal does not support PoE
In this scheme, the PoE switch comes out to receive the PoE separator, and the PoE separator separates the power supply into data signal and power. There are two output lines, one is the power output line, and the other is the network data signal output line, namely the ordinary network line. The power output includes 5V/9/12V, etc., which can match all kinds of DC input non-PoE receiving terminals, and support the IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standard. The data signal output line, that is, the ordinary network line, is directly connected to the network port of the non-PoE receiving terminal.
Third, the switch does not support PoE, and the terminal supports PoE
In this scheme, the switch comes out to receive the PoE power supply, and the PoE power supply adds the power to the network line and transmits it to the terminal. This scheme is beneficial to expand the original cabling network and has no effect on the original network.
Fourth, the switch does not support PoE, nor does the terminal support PoE
In this scheme, the switch picks up the PoE power supply, then the PoE separator, and finally transmits it to the terminal.
Schemes 3 and 4 are suitable for the transformation of traditional networks, that is, the original switches do not support PoE power supply, but want to take advantage of the benefits of PoE power supply.
To sum up, PoE can be used in any scenario, making it easy to take advantage of the conveniences brought by PoE. In addition, it is very important to choose a PoE switch. A good PoE switch can make the whole system more stable and easy to maintain and upgrade. PoE switches and PoE splitters like Fengrun are OK, but if large-scale monitoring systems try to choose well-known brands such as Huawei and Cisco.
