Asustek has launched a brand new ProArt display, a top-level display designed for professional users. The company claims that the PA32UCG is the world's first professional 4K display, supporting a combination of a maximum brightness of 1600 nits and a variable refresh rate of 120Hz. These specifications, along with a variety of HDR support, put the display in direct competition with Apple, which announced its professional user display Pro Display XDR earlier this year.
As far as its specifications are concerned, Asustek's displays are comparable to Apple's, although they both have different advantages. Both are 32 inches in size, with a peak brightness of 1600 nits, but Apple's display has a higher resolution at 6K than Asustek's 4K. But the ProArt PA32UCG refresh rate is higher: Apple's Pro Display XDR can reach the 60Hz, while the Asustek model has reached the 120Hz and is equipped with variable refresh rate technology that can scale from 48Hz to 120Hz.
Asustek is also emphasizing the HDR function of its ProArt display. The company claims that it has 1152 independent mini light-emitting diodes backlighting that enables accurate contrast between light and dark areas of an image, and supports all three major HDR standards (HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision). 10-bit displays can also support DCI-P3 and Rec. 2020 color space. Asustek says it will make each monitor go through a three-stage factory pre-calibration process, so the color of the monitor should be as accurate as possible when it reaches you.
Finally, the display is equipped with two lightning 3 ports, a display port, three high definition multimedia interface ports and a built-in universal serial bus hub.
Asustek did not announce any pricing at the 2019 IFA conference, but said it planned to launch ProArt Display PA32UCG in the first quarter of next year. It is unclear whether Apple's $4999 monitor (and $999 bracket) will be available. Asustek's latest monitor is part of the top four professional lineup, which also includes the 21.6in PQ22UC, 27in PA27UCX and 32in PA32UCX.
