Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
This article introduces the basis of SDN and NFV and the thinking of Intel. The content is very detailed. Interested friends can use it for reference. I hope it will be helpful to you.
Developing and implementing software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) solutions remains a major challenge for enterprises and communications service providers (CSP). The rapid evolution of standards and open source software for network nodes, network control, and network orchestration places a burden on organizations that are evaluating how to implement a next-generation network.
Intel ®is a leading founder and contributor to several open standards communities: OpenStack, Open Daylight, Open vSwitch, and OPNFV. The goal of Intel is to transform the network into a more flexible, scalable, and cost-effective model. For NFV to succeed, you need to use an industry-standard server platform as the basis to achieve the economies of scale required for development and deployment.
The Intel Open Network platform (open network platform, ONP) for servers provides solutions by defining open software frameworks based on open source software. Intel ONP is a test bed for integrating multiple open community projects: OpenStack (orchestration), OpenDaylight (control), and Open vSwitch (network function virtualization on the server). The challenge of integrating multiple open source streams is to join and work for all open standards communities. Intel has unique technical systems and network knowledge that can contribute to the development of these standards. Because these are open community solutions, SDN and NFV solutions are implemented in the same variety as community contributors.
"Intel and HP share a common vision. They work together to achieve a rich SDN/NFV solution ecosystem based on open source and open standards," said Rose Schooler, vice president and general manager of the Communications Storage and Infrastructure Group at Intel Corporation data Center. "HP's Linux ®implementation and HP Helion are the best examples of innovation based on Intel open network platform server reference design optimization."
So, what value can customers get from ONP?
§Intel ONP is based on high-capacity, industry-standard servers that can achieve predictable performance updates.
§periodically improve the server platform in accordance with Moore's Law, so that the platform has multiple cores, better memory bandwidth and efficiency, and a range of performance options. Therefore, ONP has become a solid foundation for continuous performance improvement of foreseeable systems in the future.
§Virtualization (for example, computing and IO) optimization can improve the efficient use of existing and future server platforms.
Periodic improvements in microarchitecture and instruction sets can improve network load performance.
§reliable computing platform support creates a stable and secure physical and virtual node for SDN and NFV deployments.
§ONP for server reference architecture is the foundation of NFV developers.
§Open software and open standards can generate the same flexible implementation options as products delivered by major operating system providers.
Optimizing at the packet processing layer through Intel DPDK, Intel QuickAssist technology, and Ethernet IO workload balancing results in a common platform architecture that can be used at all three SDN levels (orchestration, control, and nodes).
§A roadmap for ongoing open source work clearly applies to the latest solutions for SDN and NFV usage.
§ONP is provided by the solution Open Community.
Intel Network Builders NFV building blocks-OS, VMM, VNF- provide a variety of implementation options.
Provide ONP for servers through an established industry ecosystem, laying a solid foundation for CSP to develop and implement SDN and NFV solutions. Intel and HP work together to work with us on the Intel-based HP reference by creating an ecosystem of solution providers
Deliver high-quality network workloads on the platform to support CSP's network transformation. One example is Intel ONP, which significantly improves the performance of HP ProLiant servers and blade servers. HP has taken advantage of this key knowledge in its cooperation with Intel, and in
Open vSwitch integrates major optimizations to deliver HP Helion, providing a business solution for ETSI Network NFV use cases.
Currently, HP and Intel work together to provide development platform solutions. Together, they develop a reliable roadmap for the future that enables CSP to take full advantage of its deployed servers. We are now ready to deploy customer pilots of these solutions with the ecosystem and customers.
On the basis of SDN and NFV and how Intel thinking is shared here, I hope that the above content can be of some help to you, can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it for more people to see.
