Navicat Monitor is a secure, simple and agentless remote server monitoring tool. It has a powerful function to maximize the effectiveness of your monitoring. The monitored servers include MySQL, MariaDB and Percona Server, and are compatible with cloud databases such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Oracle Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Aliyun. Navicat Monitor is a server-based software that can be accessed from anywhere using a web browser. Through network access, you can easily and seamlessly grasp the status of global servers around the clock.
Navicat Monitor for MySQL/MariaDB is an agentless remote server monitoring tool that includes a variety of functions to make monitoring database (DB) instances as efficient and simple as possible. In addition, its server-based architecture makes it accessible from anywhere through a Web browser, making it easy and seamless to track servers from anywhere in the world at any time of the day or night.
Once you have installed Navicat Monitor and logged in, you can create an instance to monitor. This article will learn how to configure DB instances for monitoring.
Create a new instance
You can create a new instance on the following page by clicking New Instance and selecting the server type. You will find the new instance button on the Overview and configuration screen. Up to 1000 instances can be created.
The Overview Dashboard (Overview Dashboard) page displays all instances monitored by the Navicat monitor. It provides high-level summary information and the health status of instances, and identifies instances that require focused attention.
The instance information is displayed on the instance card, through which the server status and the usage of system resources can be identified. To create a new instance to monitor your server, click New Instance, and then select the server type from the drop-down list:
Then, enter the appropriate information in the new instance window.
In the New Instance window, enter a descriptive name in the Instance Name field. It is recommended that this instance have the same name as in Navicat Premium. Select a group for the instance. If you want to add a new group, click New Group to add it. Then, provide the following information to connect to the server:
Navicat Monitor can connect to the database server through a secure SSH channel to send and receive monitoring data. It allows you to connect to the server, even if the remote connection is disabled or blocked by a firewall.
In the MySQL Server or MariaDB Server section, enter the following information:
Host Name: the hostname or IP address of the database server.
Port: the TCP/IP port that connects to the database server.
Username: the monitoring user who connects to the database server.
It is recommended that you create a separate account for monitoring users, which does not cause loading on the monitored instance. You should grant privileges to all database objects of REPLICATION CLIENT, SUPER, PROCESS, and SELECT to monitoring users.
Password: monitor the login password of the user.
Server Type: the type of server. It can be something like Unix or Windows.
Navicat Monitor can also collect system performance metrics for database servers, such as CPU and memory resources. If you do not provide this login, you can still monitor the server, but the system performance metrics will not be displayed.
Finally, click "New" to create a new instance.
The following is the new instance dialog box with all the fields filled in:
This is the New Instance button on the Instance Configuration screen. It can be accessed through Configurations > All Instances:
Token Activation
At the end of the trial period, Navicat Monitor needs a token to continue to monitor the instance. Tokens can be purchased from the Navicat website. To manage tokens and license instances, go to Configurations > Activation.
To activate the instance, find it in the Unlicensed Instances list, check the box next to it, and then click the License button to move it to the Licensed Instances list:
You can now start monitoring your instance!
