The original intention of GAIAWORLD to design the CPoS consensus mechanism is to really promote the blockchain technology to enter the landing stage as soon as possible. Our core members have been engaged in the Internet industry for more than 20 years, and we are well aware of what kind of consensus mechanism the current community needs, so we have designed the CPoS consensus mechanism.

What is the CPoS consensus mechanism?

First of all, CPoS is a truly decentralized consensus mechanism. We believe that the consensus mechanism of the public chain must be truly decentralized, and the public chain should not and can not be based on a weak centralized consensus. Whether it's 12 nodes or 21 nodes, because this is not the essence of a decentralized solution. We believe that the so-called high TPS and low rates based on centralization are only palliative rather than permanent. In a sense, we agree with EOS's 21-node theory.

Secondly, CPoS is a consensus mechanism based on equity proof. We believe that reaching a consensus should be relatively low-cost, while BTC's PoW scheme consumes too much power and hardware resources, and this consumption will continue to increase with the passage of time. In the long run, this unlimited increase in consumption is unacceptable. Moreover, the mining machine needs a large amount of cost input at one time, which sets an invisible threshold for ordinary people to join, which is not conducive to the decentralization of the block chain. In practice, BTC computing power is indeed controlled by a few mining pools, manipulating the voice of the BTC community, while the interests of money holders will be ignored. CPoS consensus mechanism can solve these two problems very well, because the nodes reach a consensus through equity competition, there are few requirements for hardware, and really let the money holders have the right to speak.

Thirdly, CPoS is a consensus mechanism of high availability. According to CAP theorem, consistency and availability cannot be achieved at the same time in a distributed partition system. We believe that in the specific area of blockchain, availability takes precedence over consistency, so we ensure high availability in the first place. Tendermint's PoS design, which was once very popular, emphasizes high consistency and adopts a PoS scheme based on Byzantine fault tolerance. The speed of Tendermint reaching consensus is slow, and there will be the problem of blocks getting stuck. After a period of operation, the high consistency scheme represented by tendermint temporarily withdrew from the mainstream stage.

Finally, CPoS is a pure consensus mechanism of proof of interest. We believe that PoS has a greater advantage over PoW, so the consensus solution should be pure PoS, not a temporary hybrid solution. ETH's casper design is a consensus mechanism for mixing PoS/PoW into blocks, and we believe that ethernet will eventually use the same pure PoS consensus as GAIAWORLD. CPoS also avoids the Matthew effect that the rich get richer by introducing random numbers in the forging process. Also, we are going to add the ultimate consistency feature to CPoS.
