Wsus is Microsoft's free Windows update service management software, which provides the distribution of some key updates of Windows. Through this service, you can get the latest update patches from Microsoft's official website server as soon as possible.

There are three common deployment environments for wsus: 1. Simple deployment; 2. Multiple wsus servers; 3. Disconnect the wsus environment under Internet.

Here is a brief description of how to deploy simply, as shown in the figure

Preparation before deployment of the wsus service:

1.CPU: x64 processor with at least 1.4GHz main frequency (2GHz or faster is recommended)

two。 Memory: available memory at least 2GB

3. Free disk space: the partition where wsus updates are stored requires at least 10GB remaining space (40GB or greater is recommended)

4. Network adapter: at least 100Mbit/s.

After the conditions are met, install the wsus service next

1. Add roles and features to the dashboard of the Server Manager window, and click the next button before you start.

two。 In the Select installation Type window, select the role-based and feature-based installation radio button, and click the next button.

3. Select the target server in the service pool in the Select Target Server window, confirm this machine, and click the next button.

4. In the Select Server role window, select the Windows server Update Service check box, click the add feature button in the add required features dialog box that pops up, and click the next button.

5. In the Select Features window, keep the default settings and click the next button.

6. In the Windows server Update Services window, you can view the notes and click the next button.

7. In the Select role Services window, when you select the role services to install for the web server (IIS), select all, and then click the next button.

8. Confirm that the WID Connectivity and WSUS Services check boxes are selected, and click the next button.

9. In the content location selection window, specify the location where the updates can be stored, so that the local or remote path can be made. After confirmation, click the next button.

10. Wait patiently for the installation to complete

11. Join the domain in the client operation

twelve。 In the server manager navigation bar, click "× × exclamation mark" and click "start post-installation task"

13. In the server manager navigation bar, click tools and select Windows server Update Service

14. In the pop-up "before start" dialog box, confirm that the message is correct and click next.

15. Because it is an experimental environment, deselect the "Yes, I would like to join the Microsoft Update and improvement Service" check box in the "join the Microsoft Update and improvement Program" dialog box, and then click the next button.

16. In the select "upstream server" dialog box, because this experiment is only a wsus server, its upstream is Microsoft update. Select the synchronize from Microsoft updates radio button and click the next button.

17. In the specify proxy server dialog box, because it is an experimental environment, the wsus server can communicate directly with the upstream server (Microsoft update), so keep the default disconnected state, and click the next button.

18. In the Connect to upstream server dialog box, click start connection the system will try to connect to the upstream server and find the list of information that can be downloaded. After waiting for a period of time, the download list has been updated. Click the next button (you can stop the connection if you wait too long)

19. Open users and computers and add organizational units

20. Define the name casually and add the client.

21. In the wsus Update Services window, click on the computer, right-click all computers, and click add computer Group.

twenty-two。 The name of the computer group is the same as that of the newly created group as far as possible. Click finish.

Next, configure automatic update group policy.

1. In the navigation bar of the Server Manager window, click tools, select Group Policy Management, in the open Group Policy Management console, right-click Office, select create GPO in this domain and connect here from the pop-up shortcut menu, and the name defaults.

3. In the Group Policy Management Editor window, expand the computer configuration, policies, Administrative templates, Windows components, Windows updates node tree, and double-click configure automatic updates in the right pane

4. In the configure automatic updates window, select the enabled radio button, and in the options bar below, select 3-automatic download and notify installation. Click OK.

5. In the right pane, double-click specify intranet Microsoft update service location

6. In the "intranet Microsoft Update Service location" window that opens, select the enabled radio button. In the options bar below, enter the same URL for the wsus server in the text box "set intranet Update Service for detecting updates" and "set intranet Statistics Server" text box, and click OK.

7. Double-click allow client destination Settings

8. In the allow client destination Settings window, select the enabled radio button, enter the target group name in the options bar below, and click OK

9. In the left pane of the wsus management console, select the options node, click computer in the right pane, select the use computer's Group Policy or Registry Settings radio button in the pop-up computer dialog box, and click OK.

10. Restart the client for the group policy to take effect

11. Click the newly created computer group in the left pane of the wsus management console, and you will find that the client has discovered the wsus server and automatically added it to the specified computer group. It has also started to install updates automatically, indicating that the group policy is in effect.
