2.3 change the hardware version of the virtual machine in Workstation

The hardware version of the virtual machine can be changed in Workstation to accommodate other versions of Workstation or vSphere.

(1) in Workstation, right-click the virtual machine you want to change (the virtual machine is to be powered off), and select "manage → change hardware compatibility" from the pop-up shortcut menu, as shown in figure 2-3-1.

2.4Exporting and importing OVF in Workstation

Exporting OVF in Workstation is similar to importing OVF in vSphere, but simpler than in vSphere, which is briefly described below.

(1) in Workstation, select the virtual machine exported to OVF (the virtual machine will be powered off), and then select Export to OVF from the File menu, as shown in figure 2-3-6.

3 Storage browser copy or download

If the virtual machine is transferred between two vSphere, and the vSphere is not in the same network, besides using the method of exporting and importing OVF, you can also use vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client to download and upload virtual machine folder. This method is described below.

3.1 download a virtual machine from vSphere

You can browse the storage of ESXi, download the folder where the virtual machine is located, download the virtual machine locally, save it on the active hard disk, and then take the active hard disk to another vSphere, and use the way of "upload folder" to transfer the virtual machine. Download the virtual machine folder in vSphere as follows.

(1) Log in to vCenter Server or ESXi using vSphere Client, select the ESXi host on the left, in "configure → Storage", right-click to browse the storage where the virtual machine is saved, and select "Browse data Storage" in the pop-up shortcut menu, as shown in figure 3-1.

(2) in the data Storage browser, select the virtual machine folder to download on the right (do not expand the virtual machine), click the "" button on the toolbar, and download the virtual machine to the local computer, as shown in figure 3-2.

(3) in the Browse for folder dialog box, select a location and save the folder you want to download, as shown in figure 3-3.

(5) after downloading, open the Explorer and you can see that the downloaded virtual hard disk is in the format of "thick set", as shown in figure 3-5.

If you want to use this virtual machine in Workstation, you can open it by selecting "Open" from the File menu of Workstation and browsing the configuration file of the downloaded virtual machine (vmx file in figure 3-5).
