In wireless coverage engineering, it is often necessary to test the wireless signal strength of the site to determine whether the wireless signal is strong enough and whether the wireless signal strength meets the requirements. Like sound, the intensity of wireless WiFi can be measured. Notebook computers can install test software to measure wireless signal strength. WirelessMon is one of the most commonly used wireless signal strength testing software.

WirelessMon can list the signal strength, channel and other real-time information emitted by all the surrounding wireless routers, wireless AP or wireless base stations. The wireless information and values displayed by measurements are an important basis for adjusting the channel to avoid co-frequency interference, and it is a necessary tool software for wireless coverage engineering.

After the WirelessMon software starts, the default interface is the "summary" interface, as shown in the figure, in which you can see all the wireless signals that can be searched by the wireless network card:

Upper left area: wireless information currently connected

◇ SSID: SSID to which the wireless signal is currently connected

◇ channel: the channel occupied by signal

◇ authentication type: whether AP is encrypted or not

◇ speed: the current communication speed of the wireless connection

◇ strength: the signal strength of the current wireless connection. DBm and% correspond to the same meaning.

◇ MAC address: search for the MAC address of the signal source device

Upper right area: surrounding wireless channel occupancy (channel congestion)

The following area: list all surrounding wireless signals and their information

"MAC address: search for the MAC address of the signal source device

"Channel channel: the channel occupied by the signal

RSSI signal strength: all received signal strength, in dBm, the smaller the negative, the better.

Current Status status: three states, blue, currently connected AP, green, AP that can be connected, red, AP that cannot be connected

Searching SSID: the SSID that found the signal

Encrypted Security encryption: whether AP is encrypted or not

In wireless coverage, we should often test the signal strength of the room to see if it is up to the standard. DBm, the smaller the negative signal, the better. According to experience, usually-65dBm is qualified,-60dBm is better. There are two important indicators in wireless coverage, signal strength and mutual interference between AP (co-frequency interference). Later, the wireless AP can be optimized to adjust the channel of AP to avoid co-channel interference with other AP.
