In the cloud desktop scenario, although major manufacturers (such as Citrix, VMware) have developed USB redirection and other technologies to solve the problem of virtual desktop access to peripherals, and through these redirection technologies provided by the original factory can solve most of the peripheral connection problems (such as U disk, U shield, etc.), but in the complex peripherals ecology, there are always many peripherals can not be connected to the virtual desktop for various reasons. Especially for some USBKey devices such as dongles, for similar external devices that cannot be redirected directly, you can try to share USB devices through USB over network.

Usb over network is a USB device sharing software that, through its USB virtualization technology, builds accurate and complete simulations of the remote USB devices of the USB protocol stack in each shared hardware aspect of the customer's virtual copy. Usb over network shares the peripherals of USB interface on IP network, puts forward the concept of extended USB bus iUSB based on IP, and implements iUSB by adding virtual host controller interface (VHCI) in the client's USB driver layer and virtual device driver (VDD) in the server's USB driver layer. Due to the inclusion of an operating system-independent protocol iUSB, USB devices on the network can be accessed transparently across platforms, which is the main advantage of iUSB.

USB Over Network software is mainly composed of USB over Network Client client and USB over Network Server server. USB over Network Server is mainly installed in the computer that provides USB data sharing, while USB over Network Client is installed in the client platform that needs to obtain shared content. USB data can be shared through the network environment!

In the example of this document, we will show how to map a peripheral device that was previously unable to pass VMware Horizon 7 redirection technology to a virtual desktop through usb over network. The peripheral of this scenario is a × × reader called SS628 (100). The software version is the virtual desktop of VMware Horizon 7.7+Windows7. This peripheral is a machine for reading and recording × × information, which needs to be connected to PC connection software through USB. After testing and consulting customer service, the product cannot pass virtual desktop and remote desktop technologies including remote Desktop (RDP), Citrix, VMware and so on.

The device class that can be seen through the USB Deview software is shown as an "encrypted device", so this peripheral is not a universal USB device.

From the above introduction, we can know that usb over network can be divided into Server and client, the server refers to the computer connected to the terminal device, and the Client side is the computer where the peripheral is finally used; in the virtual desktop scene, the thin client is the Server side, and the system in the virtual desktop is the client side. Before installing and configuring, make sure that the driver for the peripheral is installed on both the Server and client sides, because both sides need to identify the device.

For this scenario, first install usb over network on the thin client system

Thin client chooses "Server" for type selection

You can choose to try out on the license, or use a formal license.

Select the installation path. This example remains the default.

Keep the default click to install

Installation is complete, open the program

You can see the connected external device in the program interface. Select the device you want to share, and click "share device" above to share the device.

After the sharing is successful, there will be a sharing icon in the lower left corner, indicating that the device has been shared

Now that the server is ready and the peripherals are shared, the next step is to prepare the client. The installation process of the client is similar to that of the server. Please select client in the following steps.

Note that if the installation may require installation of the appropriate equipment and house arrest, click install

After installing the client, randomly open it and add the server through the "add server" in the upper left corner, and enter the IP or hostname of the prepared server in the server. Through this interface, you can clearly understand that the IP address on the server side needs to be set to a fixed IP or accessed through the domain name to ensure that the IP corresponding to the domain name is real-time and correct, and the port can be kept at the default of 33000.

After adding the server, you can see the device shared on the server side. Select the device and click Connect.

When you return to the server after a successful connection, you can see the client IP of the current connection, indicating that the device has been successfully shared.

After the sharing is successful, you can see the password device in the device manager of the virtual desktop

And the application can also recognize the hardware and can be used normally.

Note:

1: after the software is installed, it will automatically register as a service and run through the service. Please make sure that the corresponding service is running normally and is self-starting. So the Server and client can run the application automatically in the background without clicking on it manually.

2: in the virtual desktop scenario, if the user's thin client is locked or standardized, it is recommended to set the shared device to be "permanent", that is, to select "permanent" in action, instead of resetting it every time it is restarted, and then the Server side should also choose to boot and automatically share, while the client will automatically connect to share. In this way, it achieves a scenario of self-starting and hot-swappable adaptation.

3: the program is connected by default through port 33000, and it can also be changed according to the actual situation.
