As we all know, Kubernetes is an open source container orchestration engine, and you can choose to run Kubernetes on your own hardware or virtual machine, or you can set up a computing cluster locally and deploy Kubernetes manually. However, if you choose to deploy locally, it will bring a lot of complexity. The essence of Kubernetes is automation, which is intended to make the deployment of containerized applications simple and efficient, which is the greatest significance of the existence of Kubernetes. But in fact, it is so difficult for Kubernetes's own deployment that many enterprises prefer to run container workloads on hosted Kubernetes services.

So, for enterprises that are using Kubernetes for the first time, what should be considered if they choose to lease? The following five key points may bring more lessons!

1. It is a good choice to maximize the trial through free services. Most Kubernetes service providers offer varying degrees of trial services, and these trials are undoubtedly the best way to learn about Kubernetes. Of course, the trial versions they provide are the simplest applications. However, these free versions provide a variety of tools to manage clusters, some of which provide different features than packages. Considering the fast-changing characteristics of container choreography technology, the functions provided by each service are iterated at any time, and it may be more sense of security to use managed services.

2. Learn how to install, configure and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters. Not all primary nodes of services are highly available, and some methods are up to us to explore. In addition, each service provides different types of troubleshooting tools and performance logs, not to compare which method is better or worse, just to ensure that there are no accidents after the system is running.

3. Understand the additional cost of high availability. Although we have decided which Kubernetes to choose, we also have to let each other handle the master node in a different way. But when we get to the production environment, we may run two or even three or more nodes, which means that our main server will charge more.

4. It is necessary to have the management ability of multi-cloud environment. Using managed Kubernetes services means that our services run in a public cloud environment. For example: with Google's managed Kubernetes, our nodes will run in the Google cloud; with Amazon's services, our nodes will run on AWS, and so on. So, if we want to run the node on multiple services (or in a mixed configuration), we need to know whether the other party can support it. For example: OpenShift or Heptio Kubernetes Subscription (HKS), the setup is more complex, but has a good advantage in terms of security and fault tolerance.

5. Turnkey project is also a choice. Enterprises may be reluctant to hand over the keys of the cluster to cloud service providers, while turnkey services such as Stackpoint or Containership Kubernetes Engine (CKE) deploy their own clusters on the public cloud in a "one-button" manner, so that enterprises can create clusters more satisfactorily. It should be noted, however, that enterprises need to understand what is involved in maintaining and troubleshooting this type of cluster, because it is designed to be maintained and updated differently from managed services. Cloud operation and maintenance capabilities may determine whether the managed service provider has a competitive advantage and whether it can meet the specific needs of the enterprise.

In short, when using managed Kubernetes, we must examine the comprehensive strength of cloud service providers to ensure strong business consistency, and ensure that applications developed when using managed services, as well as containers for deployment, can be seamlessly migrated or deployed locally.
