upgrade

Generally, you can only upgrade directly from 9.04. If your current version is older than 9.04, you should upgrade to 9.04 first.

If your system has software updates, be sure to update them before upgrading to 9.10.

Enjoy Ubuntu 9.10.

It seems that menu.lst will not be upgraded automatically after upgrading. I don't have mine anyway. Had to change it manually. Just replace the old kernel with the new one's name.

Modify the source (see Figure 3-4) by deleting the 9.04 source and copying an Ubuntu 9.10 source. (I used the one below)

sudo apt-get update

Update source list, must be performed. If slow speeds are found, switch sources (see Figure 5).

sudo apt-get -d dist-upgrade

"-d" means download only files, download the files first, if the speed is slow, change the source and continue (see Figure 6).

sudo update-manager -d

Start upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10,(see Figure 7),

Do you want to upgrade now? Click Start Upgrade. (See Figure 8)

After the upgrade is complete, the system will ask you to restart. Don't rush, choose not to restart. Further package checks are required for the system to boot properly the next time. After closing the upgrade window, reuse:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade
