Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

The hype about 5G predates the promotion that is actually available to consumers, so much so that when 5G phones are really available, people are tired of it. However, 5G still exists and spreads around the world like wildfire.

Like many other events, GSMA, the organizer of Mobile World Congress, was cancelled this year. It just released its annual report on the mobile economy. The report focuses on the great progress 5G has made in the past few months and the direction of development in the next few years.

5G helps the mobile economy to achieve small growth.

5G's biggest driver comes from network operators, who are looking for new sources of revenue because smartphone sales are slow and users upgrade less frequently.

However, before operators can reap the benefits of 5G, they must invest a lot of money in building the necessary infrastructure. From 2020 to 2025, operators are expected to invest about $1.1 trillion worldwide, 80 per cent of which will be spent on 5G networks, according to GSMA.

One way for operators to recoup their investment is through Internet of things devices. It is often mentioned that this market segment keeps pace with 5G, and the number of IoT devices is expected to triple by 2025, generating as much as $1.1 trillion in revenue (rather than profits!). .

Overall, revenue in the mobile industry is expected to grow by about 1% a year over the next five years. Although the growth rate is small, it is better than none.

Millions of new users poured in.

Some (albeit small) part of the revenue growth comes from new users joining globally connected households. In the next five years, about 600 million unique new mobile users will join the network. When it comes to mobile Internet access, the number of users will increase by a staggering 1.2 billion.

Of course, most of them will be in developing countries. When it comes to North America, the question is not only whether the mobile Internet can be used, but also how fast it is.

According to statistics, the current number of 5G users in North America may be negligible, but by 2025, almost half (48%) of mobile users will use 5G on a regular basis. In a relatively short time. At the same time, the number of 3G users with the highest speed will be halved, and 2G will be almost completely eliminated.

If GSMA's forecast is correct, the penetration rate of 5G in North America can only match that of the so-called developed regions of Asia, where the proportion of 5G users will reach 50 per cent by 2025.

5G faces various obstacles.

Of course, not all sunshine and rainbows can reach these numbers. In addition to spending billions of dollars, operators have other non-technical challenges to successfully adopt 5G.

Because 5G uses ultra-high frequency waves, and the transmitter must be many times higher than 4G, people in all industries are starting to worry. These changes range from concerns that 5G hardware will make our cities ugly, to concerns that technology may have a negative impact on human health.

Even if some alarms are issued by overly paranoid citizens who are not familiar with the technology, the government should ensure that all necessary steps have been taken to safely implement 5G.

An important obstacle that can only be overcome with the support of the government is the band allowance. Operators must obtain licenses at different frequencies for the use of 5G, and not all authorities are willing to distribute them immediately. If you don't cooperate, your country may lag behind in the 5G competition, resulting in billions of dollars in lost revenue.

It can be seen that under 5G, there are unsolved problems and opportunities hidden in the whole network. It seems that in a few years, we will find that the future of our 5G will be as bright as the company expected, otherwise it will not live up to expectations.
