This article will explain in detail how Exchange 2016 realizes the new function of automatic allocation of database replicas. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you as a reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

We all know that after Exchange 2010, Microsoft provided a script RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1 that automatically balances DB copies to other DAG nodes. The script RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1 activates a database with an ActivationPreference of 1 on that node by determining the node of the database with ActivationPreference 1.

The way to manipulate this script in Exchange 2010 / 2013 is:

1. Open Exchange Powersehll and go to the Scripts directory: cd $exscripts

2. Then run the script to execute the following command:

RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1-DagName DAG01-BalanceDbsByActivationPreference-ShowFinalDatabaseDistribution-Confirm:$False

After Exchange 2016 CU2, Microsoft added a new function, which is to perform periodic automatic balancing of DAG database replicas to each node. PreferenceMoveFrequency is enabled by default in the DAG attribute. When enabled, Microsoft Exchange Replication service determines the health status of the DAG node. If the node is healthy, it will activate the database distribution to the node. Such a periodic operation is checked every hour, which is equivalent to automatically adding a scheduled task to run the RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1 script every hour after Exchange 2016 CU2. (it is still determined which node to activate first by determining the attribute value of ActivationPreference)

To disable this feature, you can use the command: Set-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup-PreferenceMoveFrequency [System.Threading.Timeout]:: InfiniteTimeSpan

This is the end of this article on "Exchange 2016 how to achieve the new function of automatic allocation of database replicas". I hope the above content can be of some help to you, so that you can learn more knowledge. if you think the article is good, please share it out for more people to see.
