Having run Windows 3.1 on raspberry pie, I naturally want to run Windows 10. So I'm going to install a Windows 10 IoT Core system on the raspberry pie.

At the time of writing this article, it is not the first time that Windows 10 IoT Core has been installed and run. After I got the raspberry pie on my birthday, I immediately tried a handful of Windows 10 IoT Core. At that time, official support for Pi 3 had not yet been released, using the version of Windows Insider. The biggest difference between raspberry pie 3 and raspberry pie 2 is that it comes with WiFi and Bluetooth adapter. At that time, there was a big problem with the version of Windows 10 IoT, which did not support Bluetooth for raspberry pie 3.

With the launch of the 10th anniversary version of Windows, there is also an annual version of Windows 10 IoT Core. In this version, first of all, the Bluetooth problem is solved.

There are many ways to install Windows 10 IoT Core to raspberry pie, one of which I used immediately and installed online using NOOBS.

First confirm that the computer operating system version of Windows 10 10.0.10240 or above is installed, and then download the device Dashboard application.

After the installation is completed, open the IoT Dashboard application and download the required image according to the device type and OS version. After the download is complete, you can use the IoT Dashboard application to swipe and write the SD/ TF card. When finished, insert the card into the raspberry pie and power on. As long as you use the same network, you can automatically find a new device in my device, and then connect to the device for management.

Of course, you can also download ISO to install, and the annual version of Windows IoT has the same version number as the 10th anniversary version of Windows, which is 1607.

Both methods actually use DISM to release the image to the SD/ TF card.

The Windows 10 IoT Core system on the raspberry pie starts up and will have a very simple interface, not the UI of Windows 10 as you might imagine. You can run UWP applications on it.
