Apple recently released watchOS 8.5 along with iOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3. These updates introduce some significant changes, bringing new emoticons, universal control support on compatible devices, and more. In addition to these exciting features, watchOS 8.5 introduced a nasty surprise that affected certain watch users. According to a growing number of online reports, the watchOS 8.5 update is breaking the fast charging of the Apple Watch Series 7. The reports contradict each other, as some say it affects only third-party chargers-such as Belkin's charger-while other users even experience the same problem with Apple's official charger.

Apple Watch Series 7 introduces faster charging speeds, allowing users to charge from 0% to 80% in about 45 minutes. Since watchOS 8.5 breaks the functionality of this particular model, users have resorted to online forums to complain about the annoyance.

Hi,

After updating Apple Watch 7 to WhatchOS 8.5, it stopped using Belkin BoostCharge PRO for fast charging. It used to charge very fast, now it charges very, very slowly (about 5% in an hour). Know how to solve this problem?

Thank you!

I can also confirm that after upgrading to watchOS 8.5, boost pro completely stopped charging my Series 7. It charges properly on Apple chargers, but the recently released Belkin Quick Charger no longer works. Given that third-party fast charging for Series 7 is absolutely desolate right now, how quickly Apple releases fixes is critical for Belkin and others to maintain customer trust.

With reports surfacing on multiple online platforms, it's safe to assume Apple has (or is about to) become aware of the problem. However, it is unclear when it will actually release an update to fix this bug. We may see a small watchOS 8.5.1 update over the next few weeks to address this issue.
