Background:

This article is a sequel to "what I did in those years (5)-- decompilation and modification of text in passive code programs". The old version of the program provides automatic online upgrade, but the compiled program retains the old version number, so it cannot be upgraded automatically. The program version number needs to be modified so that it can be upgraded.

Objective:

Modify the version number of the program so that it can be upgraded automatically.

Tools:

ResHacker (thanks to the search engine for letting me know this thing) way.

Modify the steps:

The step is relatively simple, use the Resource Hacker tool resHacker to open the program that needs to be modified, find the node corresponding to the version number, modify it directly, and save it to take effect. You can check whether the version number has changed by right-clicking the program properties.

Interlude:

Are the steps described above very simple? But when I changed the version number, I still experienced a period of groping and interlude.

At the beginning, I thought that the version number could be modified through the il file, and the corresponding location of the version number was found in the il file. After recompiling, I carelessly told the customer that the version number had been modified, "you must have no problem this time", but the customer did not have a try. I right-checked the version number and found that there was no change. Re-check to see if there are any other locations in the il file that have not been modified, and I also look carefully in the res file, but the results tell me that I can't find any other version number location. I am not good at learning and my level is limited. If you know how to change the version number through il or res files, you can also tell me.

I had to google the solution and found Resource Hacker as a tool, and it worked very well.
