Apple's own 5G modem will be available in 2022

Apple's first 5G modem will be launched in 2022, two years after the first 5G iPhone.

We believe that by September 2020, the first iPhone with a 5G modem will be available, but like most other 5G phones, it will have a built-in Qualcomm chip.

According to sources close to the plan, the release date is 2022. However, given the production problems and the fact that Intel had to abandon the development of iPhone 5G modems in 2020 earlier this year, it seems like a radical timetable for us.

Apple then acquired Intel's modem division and is using technology and people to develop its own hardware. At that time, Intel already provided Apple with a 4G modem.

However, Apple needs Plan B, so it has stopped its legal battle with Qualcomm so that it can use the upcoming 5G modem in the iPhone in 2020-possibly known as the x60 or x65.

Given the problems with Intel's 5G modems, two years is a daunting task, and we believe that if the performance of Qualcomm's 5G hardware can be achieved within this time frame, it will be great. That's it-it not only depends on it, but also ensures that it can compete.

Although the Qualcomm modems that Apple will use will be separated from the main SoC, Apple's own modems may then be integrated into the SoC along with Apple's A-Series processors.

103010 sources also pointed out that even after the prototype is designed and made, it still needs to go through a "painstaking testing and certification process". For example, it will need to be tested by networks and organizations such as FCC.

The agreement with Qualcomm will be signed in early 2019 and is expected to last six years, but of course that doesn't mean Apple can't use its hardware with Qualcomm chips on some devices.
