Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

According to a new survey of nearly 800 Ethernet engineers, manufacturers, agents, system integrators, network operators, and others, 4/5 of users face many challenges when deploying Power over Ethernet (PoE).

The study conducted by the Ethernet Alliance in January found some important PoE insights, including:

4/5 of users encounter problems, including support, reliability, or connectivity challenges.

The top three PoE installations are cameras and phones, as well as computing and storage devices.

63 per cent of customers planning to implement PoE said they needed 30w, 47 per cent needed between 30 and 60w, and 27 per cent needed more than 60w.

David Tremblay, chairman of the Alliance's PoE subcommittee and system architect at Aruba, said the global market is expected to grow to $2 billion by 2025, and PoE remains a source of profit for system integrators and solution providers. "despite the good news, the growing popularity of PoE still faces serious challenges."

According to the survey, the main challenges facing deployment of PoE include vendor support, unreliable power supply or operation, long maintenance time, and first-time connection problems.

The Alliance reported that although 78 percent of respondents encountered difficulties in PoE deployment, 72 percent expected improvements in products certified by the Ethernet Alliance's PoE certification program. The study found that 84 per cent said they wanted certified PoE devices to be more likely to be used for the first time, while 85 per cent wanted them to be more reliable.

"in the absence of registered trademarks, the use of the word" PoE "is not formally regulated, so any vendor is free to describe products and solutions as supporting PoE. In addition, terms such as" PoE + "and non-standard PoE implementations confuse device interoperability between technicians, engineers, and end users.

Experts say the biggest challenge in deploying PoE is to ensure interoperability. Dell'Oro Group said that multi-vendor interoperability is a feature of Ethernet, which is an important consideration for users who want to know whether the device is working properly, while industry participants need a way to find new cooperation opportunities with companies that provide certified devices.
