Configure the command prompt

Open a command prompt.

Click the upper-left corner of the command prompt window, and then click Properties.

Click the options tab.

In Command record, for buffer size, type or select 999, and then type or select 5 for number of buffers.

Select the Quick Edit Mode and insert Mode check boxes in Edit options.

Click the layout tab.

After you increase the screen buffer size to 999, you can scroll through the command prompt window.

If the number of buffers increases to five, the number of lines in the command prompt window increases to 5000.

To disable or enable file and directory name autocompletion on your computer or in a user login session, run Regedit.exe and set the following REG_DWORD values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Command Processor\ CompletionChar\ REG_DWORD

To set the REG_DWORD value, use the hexadecimal value of the control character used for a specific function (for example, 0 × 9 represents the TAB key and 0 × 08 represents the BACKSPACE key). User-specific settings take precedence over computer settings, and command line options take precedence over registry settings.
