Samsung hopes to continue to play a role in Apple's ambitious chipset plans. The South Korean tech giant is reportedly fighting for a place in Apple's M2 processor supply chain, similar to how it helped Apple start M1 production.

Apple has swept the PC and mobile world with its latest ARM-based internal chipset M1. The latter chip replaced Intel in Apple's product lineup, leading to a major shift in the market. Apple's new chipset powers the company's tablet, laptop and PC product lines, so there are many M1 chips on the market. Now, the company is developing the M2 chip, and Samsung wants to participate in it.

The Apple M1 part is made by Samsung.

Samsung Motor has played an important role in bringing Apple's M1 chipset to market. In other words, Samsung provided Apple with FC-BGA (all-chip ball grid array) substrates for CPU and GPU with high circuit connection density.

Samsung Motor is now trying to secure its role as an FC-BGA supplier to Apple's next-generation M2 chip, according to industry observers cited by BusinessKorea.

Samsung has not made any official announcement on the matter. However, the company reportedly invested 1.3 trillion won to build a FC-BGA production base in Vietnam in December and an additional 300 billion won in its existing FC-BGA plant in South Korea in March.
