YouTube announces 97% achievement in HTTPS encryption

In an official blog post updated by YouTube, YouTube announced that the video service had achieved 97% HTTPS encryption. The company said it could not achieve 100% encryption because some devices could not support more modern HTTPS, but said it hoped to "phase out insecure web links" over time, but it was unclear how long it would take.

YouTube is one of the most trafficked websites in the world, and its software engineers say that because AES hardware acceleration has been widely used, no additional machines are needed to deploy HTTPS encryption all video services, and today's HTTPS connections are very fast.

YouTube, which introduced HTTPS support two years ago, said the policy was implemented because of increasing access to mobile devices in recent years, and the company tried to ensure that all links were secure. "We have found that HTTPS improves the quality of experience on most customer terminals. Encryption ensures data integrity, and deploying HTTPS actually helps eliminate many types of streaming errors," the company wrote in a blog post.
