Continue disk management under Windows (1), disk management under Windows (2), disk management under Windows (3).

IX. RAID-5 Volume

Similar to striped volumes, it also combines several unallocated spaces on different disks into a single logical volume.

The difference is that when a RAID5 volume stores data, it separately calculates its parity based on the data content and writes the parity to the RAID5 volume. When a disk fails, the system can calculate and generate the failed data according to the parity check. Therefore, RAID5 volumes are fault tolerant.

1. Select unallocated space from 3 to 32 disks to form RAID volumes.

2. Each member has the same capacity.

3. Cannot include system volume and active volume

4. When only one disk fails, RAID5 provides fault tolerance. When there is a multi-block failure, the volume cannot be read normally.

5. Due to the need for computational parity when writing data, the writing efficiency is generally lower than that of mirrored volumes, but the read performance is improved.

6. The effective utilization rate of disk space is (nmur1) / njinn is the number of disks.

7. Once created, it cannot be extended

8. Only service-level Windows operating systems support RAID5 volumes.

9. The entire RAID5 volume is integrated and cannot be used by a single member unless the entire volume is deleted.

1. Create a new RAID5 volume

(three new disks have been added to the virtual machine, with sizes of 10, 12, and 14G, respectively)

Select at least three disks.

Specify the size (all disks are automatically the same size)

After completion, it is shown in the following picture

2. Repair of RAID5 volume

You can create a text file on the volume before simulating a failure (a disk).

When a disk is deleted from the virtual machine, the user still opens the file created above, but there are prompts such as "failed repetition" on the volume.

Due to the failure of a disk in the original volume, in order to be familiar with its repair operation, the user has added a new hard disk 20g.

Online and initialize the newly added hard disk

Right-click the original RAID5 volume and select "repair Volume"

Select the disk to repair (new disk)

Complete the repair

Delete the original failed disk.

Move the disk

1. Move the basic disk to another computer

You only need to take the disk online on the new computer, and the system will automatically assign the drive letter.

2. Move the dynamic disk to another computer

All the disks of the volume need to be moved together, otherwise they cannot be used

11. The use of VHD

Windows supports the operation of VHD virtual disk files, that is, you can create a VHD, and then attach it as a disk to create a new simple volume. Because the volume is a file, it is very convenient for data backup and migration.

1. Create a VHD

On the actions menu, choose create VHD

Select the location and size of the VHD file and the format of the virtual hard disk

At this point, users can initialize the VHD disk and other operations.

2. Separate VHD

3. Add VHD

You can choose whether it is read-only mode.
