SAP BW/4 HANA is the next generation data warehouse solution launched by SAP based on memory computing technology. Simplification of objects
All the traditional virtual providers are switched to Composite Provider and Open ODS View, in which Open ODS View mainly provides data based on HANA view, and Composite Provider provides data by combining other virtual objects. While the traditional Cube, DSO and so on are all converted to Advanced Data Store Object-ADSO. The concept of information object is preserved.

By introducing the concept of virtual provider, providers on the BW/4 HANA can access the data from the data source to the integrated data, while traditionally we usually issue business analysis on the final Data Mart data Mart.
Simplification of data temperature management
According to the concept of traditional data warehouse, operational data is stored in DSO to issue operational reports, and summary data is stored in Cube to issue summary analysis reports. In BW/4 HANA, the system can manage the data at different temperature levels. According to the access frequency and possibility of the data, the data can be divided into "hot data", "temperature data" and "cold data". Under the new architecture, cold data can be managed through SAP IQ or Hadoop, temperature data can be managed by expanding nodes, and hot data is resident in memory.

The new BW/4 HANA makes full use of the relevant functions of HANA data integration, and maximizes the real-time synchronization / replication of data by providing Smart Data Integration and Operational Data Queue, thus solving the problem of data timeliness in one fell swoop. The new BW/4 HANA greatly simplifies the source system into "HANA source system connection", "ODP", "file system" and so on. All databases and file systems are connected by "HANA source system"; all SAP Suite-related applications are connected by "ODP"; and text files are still uploaded by "file system".

Full use of BWMT
In traditional BW, we usually jokingly call it "a T-Code wandering around the world", and that is RSA1 (although we actually have transaction codes such as RSD1 RSH1 RSANWB, most of them can be redirected through RSA1). In the new BW/4 HANA, our main design tools have been converted to Eclipse-based BW Modeling Tool, referred to as BWMT. In general, the prerequisite for installing BWMT is the installation of HANA Studio and ABAP Development Tool (ADT for short). The new object ADSO and the editing of Composite Provider can only be carried out in BWMT, and the traditional SAP GUI method is no longer supported.

Business Explorer Analyzer based on Excel (referred to as Analyzer) was born with the emergence of BW. Since BW 3.5, SAP has introduced Besiness Explorer Web components (referred to as Bex Web). Generally speaking, we either take the administrator to actively log in to SAP GUI and use RSPC or RSMO to check the PULL style, which is not very convenient and flexible, or notify the administrator by e-mail when the system goes wrong, but this loses the information that is handled correctly. The new BW/4 HANA's process chain monitoring interface based on HTML5 interface takes into account the advantages of both and supports mobile management.
High performance
Data Warehouse based on memory Computing
Since the newly designed BW/4 HANA can only be based on HANA products, we no longer need "gather" and "flip up" actions on the basis of HANA's "lightning speed". At the same time, the traditional ways to improve performance created specifically for a particular scene in order to solve performance problems can also be abandoned.
Because the traditional BW data warehouse adopts the extended multi-dimensional star structure, the index and the dimension table are connected by Dimesion ID, and the dimension table and the main data table (attribute, text, hierarchical structure) are connected by SID again, so there are a lot of index ID, while BW/4 HANA cancels the dimension table and reduces the number of indexes.
At the same time, data comparison and modification based on HANA are faster than traditional databases, so data loading, especially the activation of DSO data, can greatly improve performance.
Push-down of algorithm
In the traditional BW mode, because the system adopts a three-tier architecture, the operation of any data must first be transferred from the database server to the application server, and after the application server executes the relevant algorithms, the results are sent back to the database server for change, so the speed of data processing is greatly reduced. The new generation of BW/4 HANA is based on SAP HANA memory database, and most of the front-end data analysis, data management and possible planning functions (BPS, BPC, etc.) are built down into the HANA database, reducing the data footprint, so it can greatly improve the performance of the system.
New Analytical processing HAP
Under the traditional BW mode, we all deal with the processing from data source to data target through transformation, and most of the conversion execution process can be understood as the execution of ABAP program, which is completely satisfied in the structured data processing, but the demand of data analysis in big data era obviously far exceeds the requirements of structured data.
The new generation of BW/4 HANA products can carry out predictive analysis, text analysis, data mining, machine learning and other tasks by introducing HANA Analysis Procee and integrating HANA built-in related function libraries, the use of R language, or custom function processing.
A new system architecture
Architecture determines the prospect of a system, appropriate architecture design can maximize the role of the system itself, the traditional BW based on three-tier system architecture is no longer suitable for the data processing needs of big data era, so BW/4 HANA launched a new system architecture.
In the system architecture of BW/4 HANA, the data warehouse is divided into two layers: HANA platform and BW/4 HANA Server, on which are SAP Business Objects or third-party BI tools. In this way, we no longer need Java Stack, and because the BW/4 HANA modeling environment is based on HANA, the system is flatter and more conducive to the lightning speed of SAP HANA.
