Since the launch of Cloudera Data Science Workbench (CDSW) in 2017, we have been committed to accelerating enterprise data science from research to production. Improving the productivity of the data science team through a good user experience remains key to our customers' mission to industrialize machine learning and AI, and we are pleased to announce that today's release of CDSW1.6 supports third-party editors including Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, PyCharm, etc. CDSW enables teams to collaborate on end-to-end data science workflows, from data exploration and data engineering to model development and deployment in production. This may involve collaboration among data engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers, who usually have different preferences for editors and IDE. Different teams can now take advantage of the self-service data science offered by CDSW while working in the most familiar or favorite IDE.

Browser-based IDE

In terms of IDE preferences, sometimes everyone has their own favorite tools, and everyone's favorite is different, in fact, everyone is not wrong. In fact, many Cloudera clients are fans of Jupyter Notebooks and RStudio. Starting with CDSW1.6, you can run these Web-based editors directly in CDSW, just like other libraries, the editor is also a library, the administrator can install the editor directly into Engine, or at the project level by ordinary CDSW users themselves. Jupyter Notebook support is pre-installed in CDSW, and the installation of RStudio is very simple through the method we provide.

The local IDE on your machine

Other programmers on the team, such as ML and DevOps engineers, tend to work in local IDE on their computers, such as PyCharm. These applications run locally on the user's computer and connect remotely to CDSW through SSH to complete the code and execute. Together, the above two approaches solve the problem of Cloudera customers' preference for editor IDE, and these features are also tested during CDSW1.6 development. CDSW1.6 supports installation to the following versions of CDH/HDP:

RPM installation: CDH5.7 or higher, CDH6.1.x or higher, Cloudera Manager5.11 or higher, Cloudera Manager6.1.x or higher, HDP2.6.5 or higher, HDP3.1.0 or higher.

CSD installation: CDH5.7 or higher, CDH6.1.x or higher, Cloudera Manager5.13 or higher, Cloudera Manager6.1.x or higher.
