­Canonical today announced that the candidate version image of Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (Bionic Beaver) maintenance version update has been launched for public testing. Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS is the first maintenance update for the 18.04 branch and is scheduled to be launched on Thursday, July 26th. However, before the official release, Canonical hopes to use the power of the community to test it more widely, so it launched a candidate version today before the final version was launched.

­Jean-Baptiste Lallement said in the mailing list: "these versions have many new features in the Bionic plan, but the final version has not yet been confirmed. However, you are welcome to test these images. We invite you to test them and give feedback on the BUG you want to fix. And all kinds of suggestions and need help to make Bionic Beaver more stable and reliable."

­Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is a long-term supported version, which means that Canonical will provide five maintenance version updates, with each update releasing the latest components and all the latest updates. Unfortunately, Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS will no longer have any old kernel or graphics stack, but will be equipped with Linux Kernel 4.15 kernel and Mesa 18.1.3 graphics stack.
