VTP (Virtual Local area Network Relay Protocol) is a private protocol of Cisco. Through the VTP protocol, the switches can transfer messages to each other, thus realizing the synchronization and unified management of VLAN.

VTP example:

R3:

R3 (config) # int F1 Plus 1 # trunk mode

R3 (config-if) # switchport mode trunk

R3 (config) # vtp domain cisco # all VTP-enabled switches have the same domain name

R3 (config) # vtp password cisco # VTP password is identical

At least one of the R3 (config) # vtp mode server # VTP domains is in server mode to facilitate

R3 (config) # vtp pruning create, modify, delete VLAN

Pruning switched on

R3 (config) # vlan 10 # New VLAN

R3 (config-vlan) # name vlan10

R3 (config-vlan) # vlan 20

R3 (config-vlan) # name vlan20

R3 (config) # int vlan 1 # Management IP

R3 (config-if) # ip add 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0

R3 (config-if) # no sh

R3#sh vlan-switch # View VLAN
